What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD
(HIGH VIEW, BLAYDON) (20MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE)
TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that on 17 June 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead (“the Council”) made the above Order in exercise of its powers under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (3), 4(2), 82, 83, 84 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (“the Act”), by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Northumbria Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 to the Act.

The Order, which comes into effect on 22 June 2026, will introduce a 20mph Speed Limit Zone along the lengths of road set out in the Schedule below.

A copy of the Order, plan and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be viewed at the information desk on the ground floor of Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH, Monday to Thursday between 8.45am and 5.00pm and Friday between 8.45am and 4.30pm or online at: www.gateshead.gov.uk/trafficschemes.

If any person wishes to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or that any requirement of the Act or of any instrument made under them has not been complied with, that person may, within 6 weeks from the date on which the Order is made, apply to the High Court for that purpose.
