What is happening?

THE A38 TRUNK ROAD (ISLAND SHOP TO TRERULEFOOT)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) intends to make an Order on the A38 trunk road in the County of Cornwall to allow resurfacing and associated maintenance works to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 13 July 2026 and be completed by 5 September 2026.
The effect of the Order would be:
(a) to impose an overnight (20.00 to 06.00) mandatory 50 mph speed limit on the A38 westbound from Trerulefoot Roundabout to 306 metres east of Lean Quarry Junction;
(b) to impose an overnight (20.00 to 06.00) mandatory 30 mph speed limit on the length of the A38 given at (a) above;
(c) to impose a mandatory 10 mph speed limit on the length of the A38 given at (a) above whilst convoy working is taking place;
(d) authorise the overnight (20.00 to 06.00) closure of:
(i) the A38 westbound from Trerulefoot Roundabout to Lean Quarry Junction;
(ii) the A38 eastbound from the A390 Island Shop Junction to Trerulefoot Roundabout;
(iii) the A38 westbound entry and exit slip roads at Castle Motors Junction;
(iv) the A38 westbound exit slip road at Lower Clicker Junction;
(v) the A38 eastbound entry slip road at the A390 Island Shop Junction;
(vi) the gaps in the central reservation located in the length of the A38 given at (a) above;
(e) authorise the 24hr closure of the laybys adjacent to the lengths of the A38 given at (d) above
During the closures, traffic would be diverted via junctions of the A38 and local roads.
The closures (which would not apply to emergency services, traffic officer or works vehicles) speed limits, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.
The Order would come into force on 11 July 2026 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
