What is happening?

THE BOROUGH COUNCIL OF GATESHEAD (GATESHEAD FLYOVER) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that on 17 June 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to introduce temporary restrictions along the highway as set out in the Schedule below. The Order is required to facilitate public safety while demolition works are carried out to remove a highways structure.

The Order will come into force at 00:00 hours on 21 June 2026.

The maximum duration of the Order will be 18 months; however, the works are expected to be completed by 23:59 hours on 14 August 2026. During the works all vehicles (except vehicles associated with the works and emergency service vehicles on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the sections of highway in contravention of the restrictions as set out in the Schedule below until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.

High West Street old alignment from Coburg Street to Gladstone Terrace

West side from its junction with Denmark Street in a southerly direction for a distance of 56 metres.

No Right Turn

Cramer Street

At its junction with Durham Road.

South Street

At its junction with Durham Road.

Haydn Street

At its junction with Durham Road.

Camborne Place

At its junction with Durham Road.

Albany Road

At its junction with Park Lane.

Left Turn Only

Park Lane (Eastbound)

At a point 420 metres east of its junction with Park Lane roundabout turning onto Albany Road only.
