SECTION 53 WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981
BOROUGH OF ROCHDALE (UPGRADE OF FOOTPATH HEYFP57 TO BRIDLEWAY FROM MINE STREET TO BURY AND ROCHDALE OLD ROAD, HEYWOOD)
DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT ORDER 2026
On the 2nd of April 2026, the Rochdale Borough Council confirmed the above Order made under Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
The effect of the Order is to upgrade footpath HeyFp57 to a Bridleway. The route to be upgraded is located approximately 27 meters east No.190 Bury and Rochdale Old Road Grid Ref: 385873 412169 it runs in a generally southerly direction for 218 meters to a junction with definitive footpath HeyFp62 Grid Ref: 385943 411904. At this point the route continues in a westerly direction for 389 metres to Mine Street Grid Ref: 385544 411794 passing under Queens Park Road. The route runs along an unmade existing track with a natural surface and approximately 2.5 to 3 metres wide.
A copy of the Order and the Order Map may be inspected free of charge at Number One Riverside, Smith Street, Rochdale, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, by appointment. The Order and Map may also be viewed on the Council’s website at www.rochdale.gov.uk. Copies of the Order and Map may be purchased at the above address at a cost of £5.00.
The Order came into force on 11th June 2026 but if a person aggrieved by the Order wants to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the ground that it is not within the powers of the Highways Act 1980 as amended, or on the ground that any requirement of the Act, as amended, or of any regulation made under the Act has not been complied with in relation to the Order, he or she may, under paragraph 2 of Schedule 2 to the Act as applied by paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 to the Act, within six weeks from 30th July 2026 make an application to the High Court.
