NOTICE is given that Oxfordshire County Council proposes to make the above order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all enabling powers. The effect of the Order – following a review of the current measures – is to introduce new & amend existing parking restrictions in central Wantage. Specifically, the proposals comprise of the following measures.
A. ‘Permit holders only’ parking areas
to be introduced at the following locations:
- Church Street – to cover the highway adjacent to the War Memorial (i.e. between Priory Road & the access to The Cloisters).
- Maryfield – to extend from its junction with Ormond Road, for its entire length.
- Priory Road – to extend for its entire length, between its junctions with Church Street & Portway.
B. Prohibited Waiting:
‘No Waiting at Any Time’
(Double Yellow Lines) will be introduced/amended at the following locations:
- Church Street (Both sides) – between its junctions with Priory Road & the access to The Cloisters.
- Grove Street (North side) – for approx.5 metres adjacent to Nos.21-21b, reducing the existing ‘Permit holders only parking’ area.
- Market Place West:
a. Both sides – between its junctions with Church Street & the Market Place, replacing the existing Single yellow line restriction (Mon-Sat 8am-6pm).
b. Both sides – covering all sides within the designated pedestrian zone, including either side of the planters.
- Maryfield (Both sides) – replacing the existing Single yellow line restriction (No Waiting Mon-Sat 8am-6pm) on that section adjacent to Nos.14-19 & Nos.30-35.
- Mill Street:
a. North side – for approx.5 metres adjacent to No.22, replacing part of the existing ‘Limited waiting (30mins, Mon-Sat 8am-6pm, no return 1hr)’ parking bay.
b. South side – for approx.80 metres adjacent to Nos.13-37 & Shears Court, replacing the existing Single yellow line restriction (Mon-Sat 8am-6pm).
- Priory Road (Both sides) – for approx.35 metres south from its junction with Church Street, replacing the existing Single yellow line restriction (Mon-Sat 8am-6pm).
- The Cloisters (Both sides) – for its entire length of designated highway from its junction with Church Street.
‘No Waiting Mon-Sat 8am-6pm’
(Single Yellow Lines) will be introduced/amended at the following locations:
- Locks Lane (Both sides) – for approx.27 metres west from its junction with Priory Road.
- Priory Road (West side) i) for approx.10 metres north of its junction with Locks Lane, ii) for approx.7.5 metres adjacent to the access to Nos.1-7 St Michaels, and iii) for approx.7 metres adjacent to the access to Nos.8-11 St Michaels.
C. Residents Permits:
a) Residents of the following streets (see draft order for listed properties) will be able to apply for annual Residents and Visitors’ Parking Permits, with a local identifier of ‘WN’: Church Street, Priory Road, and Maryfield. Existing eligibility will remain unaffected by these proposals.
b) Will be limited to one per resident, with a maximum of two permits per property. A resident may obtain a temporary permit for a replacement vehicle while their permanent vehicle is off the road.
D. Visitors permits:
Will be available for residents aged 17 or over at the above eligible addresses, usually a maximum of 50 days’ worth of permits will be issued per year and provided in blocks of 25. A temporary resident will be entitled to 25 visitors permits. Resident do not need to have a permit for their own vehicle to apply for visitors permits.
E. Charges:
a) for residents permits will each be £115 per annum. Visitors permits for residents aged 70 or over will be free of charge. For other residents the first block of 25 visitors permits will be free and the second block will be £31.50.
b) Contractors may apply for a permit to use a residents parking place at a charge of £20 for one day, and £33 for any two-to-seven day period.
F. Other Matters:
The Oxfordshire County Council (Various Roads – Vale of White Horse District) (Map Based) (Prohibition and Restriction of Waiting and Permitted Parking) Order 2026 will be further amended, updating Map Tiles: H42, HA43, HB42 & HB43 in the process.

Objections to the proposals and other representations specifying the grounds on which they are made may be sent in writing to the address below by the end of 17 July 2026. The Council will consider objections and representations received in response to this Notice. They may be disseminated widely for these purposes and made available to the public. Notice of Temporary Traffic Order
Thame, Montrose Way
Prohibition of Through Traffic
Date of Order: 15 June 2026
Coming into force: 21 June 2026
This Order continues in force an emergency closure by Notice introduced on 1 June because of a sinkhole in the carriageway associated with sewer pipes requiring repair which is anticipated to be completed 31 August 2026. This is a 24 hour daily road closure. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit any vehicle proceeding in the length of Montrose Way outside Nos.17 to 23. Appropriate traffic signs will be displayed to indicate when the measures are in force. Exemptions are included for emergency services and for the works and for access to premises which are only accessible from the closed section of road. Access will be maintained for pedestrians. This Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 18 months or until the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. (Ref: T18338/AC)
