What is happening?

SECTION 14(1)(A) AND (7)
THE A14 TRUNK ROAD (JUNCTION 39 KENTFORD
TO JUNCTION 37 EXNING INTERCHANGE,
SUFFOLK) AND THE A11 TRUNK ROAD
(JUNCTION 38 WATERHALL INTERCHANGE,
CAMBRIDGESHIRE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION
OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 202_

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways
Limited(a) intends to make an Order on the A14 Trunk
Road in the County of Suffolk and A11 Trunk Road in
the County of Cambridgeshire to enable third-party
maintenance works to an existing traffic statistics site
to be carried out in safety.
The works are expected to take place over 1 night
(9pm – 5am) starting on or after Thursday 2 July 2026.
The effect of the Order would be to close the –
•     westbound carriageway of the A14 from the exit
      slip road at Junction 39 Kentford to the entry slip
      road at Junction 37 Exning Interchange: Traffic
      would be diverted to take the B1506 Bury Road,
      Well Bottom, south on the A1304 Bury Road, High
      Street, Barbara Stradbroke Avenue, and then
•     to rejoin the A14 westbound; the A1303 to the
westbound entry slip at Junction 36 Nine Mile
Hill Interchange,
•     to join the A11 southbound; the A1304 London
      Road to the A11 entry slip road at Six Mile
      Bottom Interchange.
•     A11 southbound link road to the A14 westbound
      carriageway at Junction 38 Waterhall Interchange:
     Traffic would be diverted to continue on the A1304
     Bury Road, High Street, Barbara Stradbroke
     Avenue and London Road to the A11 entry slip
     road at Six Mile Bottom Interchange.
•    lay-bys adjacent to the length of A14 closed
      carriageway above, for 24 hours daily.
      The closures (which would not apply to works,
      emergency service or traffic officer vehicles) and diversion
      routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs.
The Order would come into force on 29 June 2026
and may continue in force until the works detailed
above have been completed, or for a maximum
duration of 18 months, whichever is the earlier.
