Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984
Norfolk County Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, hereby give notice that:
i) THEY PROPOSE TO MAKE Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:
GRAPES HILL (NORTHBOUND CARRIAGEWAY ONLY) – from its junction with Chapel Field Road Roundabout to its junction with Dereham Road to facilitate surface dressing works from 25th June to 9th July 2026 (may continue until 19th August 2026). Alternative route is via: Grapes Hill, Chapel Field Road, St Stephens Roundabout, St Stephens Street, Queens Road, Bracondale, King Street, Carrow Road, Koblenz Avenue, Riverside, Riverside Road, Bishop Bridge Road, Ketts Hill, Barrack Street, St Crispins Road, Barn Road and vice versa. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
NB: These works will take place in phases: Phase 1) between 19:00 and 23:00 from 25th to 27th June 2026. Phase 2) between 19:00 and 02:00 from 7th to 9th July 2026. Each phase includes two contingency days in case of inclement weather.
IPSWICH ROAD – from its junction with Tuckswood Lane to its junction with Hall Road to facilitate surface dressing and lining works from 22nd June to 2nd July 2026 (may continue until 13th August 2026). Alternative route is via: Hall Road, Lakenham Road and vice versa. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
NB: These works will take place in phases: Phase 1) between 19:00 and 23:59 from 22nd to 23rd June 2026. Phase 2) between 19:00 and 23:59 from 30th June to 2nd July 2026. The 23rd June and 1st and 2nd July 2026 are contingency dates in case of inclement weather.
NEWMARKET ROAD – from its junction with Daniels Road to its junction with Camberley Road to facilitate surface dressing works from 24th June to 7th July 2026 (may continue until 18th August 2026). Alternative route is via: Daniels Road, Ipswich Road, Norwich Southern Bypass, A47 Through J A140 E, A47 Through J A140 W, Southern Bypass Keswick To Colney, A47 J A140 Join W, A47 From J A11/B1172 To J A140 E, A47 From J A140 To J A11/B1172 W, A47 Through J A11/B1172 W, A47 Through J A11/B1172 E, Newmarket Road (Norwich, Cringleford, Hethersett, Keswick and Intwood, Caistor St. Edmund and Bixley, Ketteringham). The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
NB: These works will take place in phases: Phase 1) between 19:00 and 23:00 from 24th to 26th June 2026. Phase 2) between 19:00 and 23:59 from 5th to 7th July 2026.
ii) THEY HAVE MADE Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:
MAGDALEN ROAD/SPROWSTON ROAD – A) A1151 Magdalen Road/Sprowston Road from its junction with Magpie Road to its junction with Mousehold Lane and B) A1151 Sprowston Road from its junction with Gertrude Road to its junction with Mousehold Lane to facilitate surface dressing works, Road A will be temporarily closed/restricted (except for pedestrian access), and traffic over Road B (constituting any class of vehicle) shall be temporarily prohibited to park, stop, load and/or unload between 19:00 and 23:00 from 15th to 19th June 2026 (may continue until 31st July 2026). Alternative route for Road A is via: Northbound – Bull Close Road, Charlton Road, St Crispins Road, Pitt Street, St Augustines Street, Aylsham Road, Cromer Road, Mile Cross Lane and Chartwell Road. Southbound – Chartwell Road, Mile Cross Lane, Aylsham Road, Magpie Road. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
NB: The anticipated closure dates include 2 days for contingency in the event of inclement weather.
COLLEGE ROAD, BENSLEY ROAD, GIRTON ROAD – A) College Road from its junction with Jessop Road to its junction with Unthank Road, B) Bensley Road from its junction with College Road for 20m westwards and C) Girton Road from its junction with College Road for 20m westwards to facilitate gas main replacement works from 15th June to 11th September 2026 (may continue until 11th March 2027). Alternative route is via: Road A – Jessopp Road, Colman Road and Unthank Road. Road B – College Road, Jessopp Road and Glebe Road. Road C – College Road, Unthank Road and Glebe Road. The works promoter is Cadent.
NB: Closures will take place in phases.
Unless otherwise stated, the effect of these Orders will be to prohibit the use by traffic of the named road(s)/footpath(s). In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance. Where an Order is for a reason other than works it is because of the likelihood of danger to the public or of serious damage to the road/footpath.
Anticipated dates are stated but the Orders may continue until the end date where necessary or required.
The Orders are revoked on the end date or on the actual date of removal of the prohibition/restriction where earlier without further notice. If necessary, the restrictions can have a maximum duration of 18 months or 6 months in respect of footpaths, cycle paths, bridleways, restricted byways, and byways open to all traffic (BOAT).
Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.
