What is happening?

THE ISLE OF WIGHT COUNCIL (VARIOUS STREETS, RYDE, ISLE OF WIGHT) (EXPERIMENTAL TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER NO 1 2026

Notice is hereby given that the Isle of Wight Council in exercise of their powers under section 1, 9 and 10 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 ('the Act' of 1984), the Road Traffic Act 1991 ("the Act of 1991") and of all other enabling powers and after consultation with The Chief Officer of Police propose to make an order the effect of which will be to:

1. To introduce 'A Prohibition of Parking on Verge or Footway' restriction in the following length of road:

Ampthill Road, Ryde, on both sides, between a point 40 metres east of its junction East Hill Road to its junction with Appley Rise. Appley Rise, on both sides, between its junction with Ampthill Road and a point 113 metres north thereof.

2. To revoke No Waiting Mon-Fri 8am-6pm' parking restriction in the following lengths of road:

Ampthill Road on the south side, from a point 56.5 metres east to a point 106 metres east of its junction with East Hill Road.

3. To introduce 'No Waiting at Any Time' parking restriction in the following lengths of road:

Appley Rise, on the east side, from its junction with Ampthill Road to a point 262.5 metres north thereof.

Ampthill Road, on the north side, from a point 15.5 metres east to a point

20.5 metres east of its junction with East Hill Road.

Ampthill Road, on the north side, from a point 44 metres east to a point

50 metres east of its junction with East Hill Road.

Ampthill Road, on the south side, from a point 56.5 metres east to a

point 106 metres east of its junction with East Hill Road.

4. To introduce 'No Stopping on School Entrance Markings. Monday to Friday. 8am to 6pm'. in the following length of road:

Ampthill Road, Ryde, on the south side from a point 11.5 metres east to a point 56.5 metres east of its junction with East Hill Road, Ryde. The amendments are being proposed to facilitate the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic (including pedestrians) and for avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising. This Order is being brought into operation at 0001 hours on 19th June 2026 for a period of 18 months.

The Isle of Wight Council will give consideration to the restriction after a six-month period to whether the provisions of this experimental order should be altered for a further six months or continued in force indefinitely. A copy of the draft Order, this Notice, and the relevant plan may be inspected between normal office hours at the Customer Service Centre, County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight during the objection period.
