THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF FOOTPATH ON BRANCEPETH ROAD WASHINGTON) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit all pedestrians along the footpath on Brancepeth Road, from its junction with Raby Road for a distance of 50 metres in a northernly direction. The Order is required to enable gas main repair works on or near the footpath. The Order will come into operation on 27th July 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 6 months, however it is estimated that the closures will only be in operation for 2 weeks from commencement of the works. All pedestrians will be prohibited from the above footpath (except personnel involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. A diversion for pedestrians will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Dated 16th June 2026 Patrick Melia OBE, Chief Executive, Sunderland City Council, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA
