What is happening?

THE ROYAL BOROUGH OF KENSINGTON AND CHELSEA
TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE (PORTOBELLO ROAD) 2026
ROAD CLOSED TO VEHICLES FOR SUNDAY MARKETS

The Council of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea give notice that they intend to make an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, Schedule 1, Section 16(1)(a) and all other enabling powers prohibiting motorised vehicles from proceeding or waiting in the roads cited below.

Portobello Road to be closed between the following junctions:
• Westbourne Grove to Elgin Crescent.
• Elgin Crescent to Blenheim Crescent.
• Blenheim Crescent to Westbourne Park Road.
• Westbourne Park Road to Lancaster Road.
• Lancaster Road to Cambridge Gardens.
• Cambridge Gardens to Oxford Gardens.

The restrictions will come into force on Sundays between 7.00am and 4.00pm, from Sunday 28 June 2026 until Sunday 20 December 2026.

Diverted traffic may use Portobello Road via Westbourne Grove, Kensington Park Road, Ladbroke Grove, and surrounding roads as necessary to rejoin Portobello Road further north. 

Alternatively, diverted traffic may use Westbourne Grove, Elgin Crescent, Blenheim Crescent, Westbourne Park Road, Lancaster Road, Cambridge Gardens, and Ladbroke Grove as appropriate.

The one-way working on Portobello Road between Westbourne Crescent and Oxford Gardens is to be suspended for the duration of the closures. 

Access will be maintained for residents and occupiers.

Nothing in this Order shall apply to:
• anything done with the permission of, or at the direction of, a police constable in uniform.

• anything done in connection with the operation of this Order.
