The East Sussex (Public Footpath Wartling 23 (part))

(Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

To protect public safety while part of Wartling 23 that is an existing access track is upgraded to facilitate the development of an approved battery energy storage system (BESS) facility, along with some of the initial BESS site itself, under planning reference ‘WD/2023/2940/MAJ’ as approved under condition discharge ‘WD/2025/2358/CD’, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following footpath:

Temporary Footpath Closure

Part of Public Footpath Wartling 23 will be closed to all users between TQ 6689 1136 (Boreham Hill) and TQ 6698 1120 for a distance of 190 metres. Unfortunately, there is no alternative route.

The closure will be in force for 6 months from 29 June 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier, which after this period will require an extension from the Secretary of State, should the footpath still be unavailable to use. The East Sussex (Public Footpaths Fletching 33 and Isfield 2)

(Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2025

To protect public safety due to flooding on the footpaths, the Secretary of State has extended the above East Sussex County Council’s Order made on 12 December 2025 under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following footpaths:

Temporary Footpath Closure

The whole of Public Footpath Fletching 33 will be closed between TQ 4509 2123 and TQ 4496 2107 for a distance of 230 metres. The whole of Public Footpath Isfield 2 will be closed between TQ 4450 2080 and TQ 4496 2107 for a distance of 568 metres.

There is no alternative route but a suggested route is along Buckham Hill (taking care of any traffic) and footpath Isfield 1a and vice versa.

The closure will be in force for 6 months from 19 June 2026, or until the works are completed, whichever is the earlier, which after this period will require an extension from the Secretary of State, should the footpaths still be unavailable to use. (40mph and 50mph Speed Limit) Order 202*

NOTICE is hereby given that East Sussex County Council propose to make an Order under Sections 84 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, which would amend the speed limit in the following lengths of road;

SCHEDULE ONE
40mph Speed Limit

A267 Horam Road and Eastbourne Road - from a point 217 metres south of its junction with the C208 Horebeech Lane southwards to a point 33 metres south of its junction with the U7674 Swansbrook Lane.

SCHEDULE TWO
50mph Speed Limit

A267 North Street - from a point 33 metres south of its junction with the U7674 Swansbrook Lane southwards to a point 343 metres south of the Wellshurst Golf Club entrance

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily restrict all traffic using the following length of road to a speed not exceeding 30 mph:

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026 No.2

To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Marle Green – from the junction with U7597 Cowden Hall Lane to the junction with C208 Grove Hill.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via C208 Marle Green, Grove Hill, Park Road – C343 New Road – C15 Featherbed Lane, Cowbeech Hill, Cowbeech Road – C409 Hammer Lane – C596 Clappers Lane, Foords Lane – C406 Nettlesworth Lane, Laundry Lane and vice versa. The Order commences 17 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 17 and 19 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;

Temporary Road Closure

Heathfield Road – from the junction with U6201 Vicarage Road to the junction with U6199 Batemans Lane.

A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A265 Heathfield Road, Burwash Road, Mutton Hall Hill, High Street, Cross in Hand Road – A267 Little London Road, High Street, Horam Road, Eastbourne Road, North Street, New North Street – A271 Lower Horsebridge, Upper Horsebridge, Hawkswood Road, Amberstone, New Road, Hailsham Road, Gardener Street, Windmill Hill Road, The Strait, Boreham Hill, Kitchenham Road, Beechdown Wood, North Trade Road – A2100 London Road – A21(T) – A265 Station Road, Haremere Hill, High Street, Straight Mile, Etchingham Road, High Street, Paygate and vice versa.

The Order commences 15 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken from 20:00hrs to 06:00hrs between 15 and 20 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions. To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following lengths of road;

The Drove – from the junction with A259 South Way to the junction with A259 B&Q roundabout and A26 New Road.

North Quay – from the junction with A259 The Drove to the junction with A259 Station Approach.

Railway Approach – from the junction with A259 Station Approach to The Sidings car park.

To allow East Sussex Highways to carry out works, East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following lengths of road;

Temporary Road Closures

St Johns Road/Mardens Hill/Hubbards Hill – from the junction with B2188 Church Hill to the junction with C11 London Road.

Diversion via B2188 Church Hill, Lye Green Road – C11 Lye Green, Summersales Hill, London Road – U7475 Ghyll Road and vice versa.

The restriction is anticipated to be in place between 15 and 21 June 2026.

Down Lane – for its entire length.

The restriction is anticipated to be in place on 1 July 2026.

Beckets Way – for its entire length.

The restriction is anticipated to be in place on 29 and 30 June 2026. Ladies Mile – from the junction with B2188 Cherry Gardens Hill to the junction with B2110 Withyham Road.

Diversion via B2188 Plumyfeather Lane, Lye Green Road, Church Hill, Black Hill – B2026 High Road, Chuck Hatch Road, Cotchford Hill, Jib Jacks Hill – B2110 High Street, Castlefields, Withyham Road – B2188 Hendal Hill, Cherry Gardens Hill and vice versa.

The restriction is anticipated to be in place on 10 and 11 August 2026. Church Street/Wardsbrook Road – from the junction with B2099 High Street to the junction with C83 Myskyns Road.

Diversion via C83 Myskyns Road, Cottenden Road – C214 Bardown Road, Stonegate Road – B2099 Shovers Green, High Street and vice versa.

The restriction is anticipated to be in place between 1 and 4 July 2026. Station Road/Broadwater Forest Lane – from the junction with B2110 Withyham Road to the junction with A26 Eridge Road.

Diversion via A26 Eridge Road – C11 London Road, Summersales Hill, Lye Green – B2188 Plumyfeather Lane, Cherry Gardens Hill, Hendal Hill – B2110 Withyham Road and vice versa.

The restriction is anticipated to be in place between 1 and 5 July 2026. A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic set out above.

The Order commences 15 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken as set out above depending upon the weather conditions.
