What is happening?
SECTION 14(1) OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
Notice is hereby given that the Wiltshire Council has made Orders to: Temporarily close to all Vehicles (except residents displaying a valid permit):
a) High Street, Avebury (including Church Walk Spur) – from its junction with A4361 for its entire length. And to temporarily close to all vehicles, motor propelled vehicles and caravans:
b) Byway 1, Avebury; from its junction with A4 (and car park) to its junction with Byway 5, Avebury.
c) Byway 10, Winterbourne Monkton; from its junction with Byway 1, Avebury to its junction with Byway 40, Fyfield.
d) Byway 40, Fyfield; from its junction with Byway 10, Winterbourne Monkton to its junction with Byway 12, Berwick Bassett.
e) Byway 12, Berwick Bassett; from its junction with Byway 40, Fyfield to its junction with Byway 10, Winterbourne Bassett.
f) Byway 10, Winterbourne Bassett; from its junction with Byway 12, Berwick Bassett to its junction with C18.
g) Byway 3, Avebury; from its junction with Byway 5, Avebury to its junction with Byway 1, Avebury.
h) Byway 4, Avebury; from its junction with Bridleway 4, Avebury to its junction with Byway 3, Avebury.
i) Byway 5, Avebury; from its junction with Byway 1, Avebury (Ridgeway) to its junction with Byway 3, Avebury.
j) Byway 9, Winterbourne Bassett; from its junction with Byway 10, Winterbourne Bassett to its junction with Byway 14, Winterbourne Bassett.
k) Byway 14, Berwick Bassett; from its junction with the unclassified road to its junction with Byway 9, Winterbourne Bassett.
And to introduce a temporary No Waiting at Any Time restriction applying to both sides of the following lengths of road:
l) A4361 (Part), Avebury and Winterbourne Monkton – from its junction with A4 Beckhampton roundabout, Avebury to its junction with Mill Lane, Winterbourne Monkton.
m) Nash Road, Avebury (including spur) – from its junction with A4361 to its junction with South Street.
n) South Street, Avebury; from its junction with Nash Road to its junction with Longfields.
o) Longfields, Avebury (including spur) – from its junction with A4361 to its junction with South Street.
p) Bray Street, Avebury (including spurs) – from its junction with South Street for its entire length.
q) Trusloe Cottages, Avebury – from its junction with Bray Street for its entire length.
r) High Street, Avebury (including Church Walk spur) – from its junction with A4361 for its entire length.
s) Green Street, Avebury – from its junction with A4361 for its entire length.
t) B4030, Avebury – from its junction with the A4361 to its junction with the A4.
u) Junction with A4361 North West to Manor Farm (known locally as Church Road), Winterbourne Monkton; from its junction with A4361 for its entire length.
v) A4361 Layby, Winterbourne Monkton; west side – from a point approximately 85m north of junction with A4361 north west to Manor Farm (known locally as Church Road) for its entire length.
w) Winterbourne Monkton, Winterbourne Monkton; from its junction with A4361 for its entire length.
x) Mill Lane, Winterbourne Monkton; from its junction with the A4361 to Windmill House.
y) A4361 Layby, Winterbourne Monkton; east side – from a point approximately 50m south of its junction with Mill Lane for its entire length.
z) A4 (Part), Avebury and West Overton; from its junction with A4 Beckhampton roundabout to The Bell Inn Public House, West Overton including the layby on the north east side of the A4 (east of junction with B4030).
aa) Gunsite Lane, Avebury and East Kennett; from its junction with A4 for its entire length.
ab) A4 Layby, Avebury; south side – from a point approximately 1km from its junction with Beckhampton Roundabout for its entire length.
Parking permits for residents parking only are issued by Avebury Parish Council and must be clearly displayed during the period of the closures.
These Orders are made to ensure public safety during the period of the Avebury Summer Solstice.
These Orders will come into operation at 08:00 on 15 June 2026 and are expected to remain in force until 12:00 noon on 23 June 2026.
The Orders for sections (a) and (r)–(ab) will have a maximum duration of 18 months.
The Orders for sections (b)–(k) will have a maximum duration of 06 months.

THE COUNTY OF WILTSHIRE (A4 CURZON STREET, CALNE) (PROHIBITION OF RIGHT HAND TURN) ORDER 2026
(Previously advertised as 2025)
Notice is hereby given that on 3 June 2026 Wiltshire Council made the above mentioned Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which is to introduce a Prohibition of Right Hand Turn from A4 Curzon Street onto Access Road to The Springfields Academy (western entrance). A copy of the Order can be obtained via email request to TrafficOrders@wiltshire.gov.uk.
Any person aggrieved by the Order and desiring to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in the Order on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant Section of the above Act or on the grounds that any requirement of that Section or of Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act or any regulation made under the said Schedule, has not been complied with in relation to the Order may, within six weeks of the date on which the Order was made, make application for the purpose to the High Court.
The Order will come into operation on 19 June 2026.

1. THE COUNTY OF WILTSHIRE (VARIOUS ROADS, ALDBOURNE) (20MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2026
2. THE COUNTY OF WILTSHIRE (C189, ALDBOURNE AND OGBOURNE ST GEORGE) (DERESTRICTED ROADS) ORDER 2026

Notice is hereby given that on 3 June 2026 Wiltshire Council made the above mentioned Orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which is as follows:
Order 1 – To introduce a 20mph speed limit on:
- Castle Street, Aldbourne – from its junction with Marlborough Road to a point 100 metres west of its junction with Westfield Chase;
- Claridge Close, Farm Lane, Hawkins Road, Hillwood Road, Marlborough Road, Southfields, The Butts, The Downs, The Garlings, Whitley Road, Aldbourne – the complete lengths;
- Southward Lane, Aldbourne – from its junction with Farm Lane to a point 127 metres south of its junction with The Garlings;
- Stock Lane, Aldbourne – from its junction with Valley View for a distance of 82 metres in a southerly direction.
Order 2 – To introduce a derestricted speed limit (national speed limit) on:
- C189, Aldbourne and Ogbourne St George – from a point 100 metres west of its junction with Westfield Chase, Aldbourne to a point 55 metres north east of its junction with A346, Ogbourne St George.

NOTICE OF MAKING A PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 SECTION 119 AND WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981 WILTSHIRE COUNCIL THE WILTSHIRE COUNCIL PARISH OF HEDDINGTON PATH 20A (PART) AND PATH CALNE 20A (PART) DIVERSION AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER 2026
The above order, made on 29 May 2026, under section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 and section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, will divert Footpaths Heddington 20A (part) and Calne 20A (part) situated at Kingsplay Close, Calne.
Heddington 20A from OSGR ST 9993-6977, in a broadly southerly, then south easterly direction for approximately 145m, to OSGR ST 9993-6963, to a new route at leading from OSGR ST 9993-6977 in a broadly easterly, then south easterly, then westerly, then southerly direction for approximately 340m, to OSGR ST 9993-6963, the path having a width of 3m and the footbridge having a width of 1.4m.
Calne 20A from OSGR ST 9993-6963, in a broadly south easterly direction for approximately 18m, to OSGR ST 9994-6962, to a new route at OSGR ST 9993-6963 in a broadly southerly, then easterly direction for approximately 27m, to OSGR ST 9994-6962, the path having a width of 2m.
And thereupon the Calne and Chippenham Rural District Council Area Definitive Statement dated 1953 shall be modified accordingly.

NOTICE OF MAKING OF AN ORDER HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 AND WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981 THE WILTSHIRE COUNCIL PARISH OF EDDINGTON PATH NO. 23 EXTINGUISHMENT AND DEFINITIVE MAP AND STATEMENT MODIFICATION ORDER 2026
The above named order, made on 4th June 2026 under section 118 of the Highways Act 1980 will, if confirmed as made, extinguish the entire width and length of that public right of way (footpath) as shown by a solid black line on the order plan, from point A, at its northern junction with the Westbury Road at OS Grid reference ST 92848 53110 leading generally south along the driveway to no.6 The City to the paths southerly termination point, at point B of the order plan, adjacent to no.6 The City at ST 92767 53038 (approx. length 60 metres).
That public right of way being known as Eddington 23. The order will also have the effect of modifying the Warminster and Westbury Rural District Council Area definitive map dated 1953 accordingly.
