What is happening?

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

CANTERBURY & THANET AREAS



A299 Thanet Way, Thanet & Canterbury (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER 2026

Because of highway repair and maintenance works, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on A299 Thanet Way, Thanet & Canterbury, as per the schedule below.

This Order takes effect on or after 1st July 2026 for a period of up to 3 months or until the works have been completed. Planned dates will be published in advance of the works and indicated by signage displayed on site 14 days before they start. Road closures and other restrictions will be in effect when the appropriate signage and barriers are in place.

SCHEDULE

A299 Thanet Way

The road will be closed between the hours of 20:00 and 05:00 only.

From A299 St Nicholas Roundabout to A291 Canterbury Road Interchange.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via A291 Canterbury Road, A291 Herne Street, A291 Canterbury Road, A291 Calcott Hill, A291 Herne Bay Road, A291 Sturry Hill, A28 Island Road, A28 Staines Hill, A28 Island Road, A28 Canterbury Road and vice versa.
