What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS IN THE CUMBERLAND COUNCIL AREA)

(TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) (NO.8) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force. A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 13 July 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as stated in the schedule, and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

1. A595 Calder Bridge – 13 July 2026 for approx. 6 days, between 2000 and 0500 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18710)

From its junction with U4048 Ponsonby Road, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 1.4km.

2. A595 Newmill, Gosforth – 20 July 2026 for approx. 6 days between 2000 and 0500 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18714)

From its junction with the U4050 Petton Place, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 2.7km

3. A595 Holmrook – 27 July 2026 for approx. 6 days between 2000 and 0600 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18715)

From its junction with the B5344, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 530m.

4. A595 Drigg – 3 August 2026 for approx. 13 days between 2000 and 0600 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18716)

From its junction with the U4055, extending in an overall south easterly direction for approx. 2.9km

5. A595 Ravenglass – 17 August 2026 for approx. 6 days between 2000 and 0600 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18718)

From its junction with the U4064, Corney Fell Road, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 3.8km.

6. A595, Waberthwaite – 24 August 2026 for approx. 6 days between 2000 and 0600 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18719)

From a point approx. 480m south of its junction with the C4027, extending in a south westerly direction for approx. 870m.

Alternative Routes for the restrictions detailed in 1 to 6 inclusive above:

For vehicles not exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight and not exceeding 6’6” in width: via the unrestricted section of the A595, A5092, A591 Kendal and A66 Cockermouth; and

For vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes maximum gross weight, vehicles exceeding 6’6” in width and vehicles permitted to use the motorway: via the unrestricted sections of the A595, A5092, M6 and A66.

7. A5086 Main Street, Cleator – 20 July 2026 for approx. 12 days between 0700 and 1900 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18722)

From its junction with the C4002 Woodend, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 1.4km.

8. A5086 Frizington – 2 August 2026 for approx. 13 days between 1930 hours, each day (Ref: TTROC/18720)

From a point approx. 240m south west of its junction with the U4013, Dub Brow, extending in a south westerly, then southerly direction for approx. 2km.

Alternative Route for the restrictions detailed in 7 and 8 above: via the unrestricted section of the A595 (Whitehaven to Cockermouth) and A5086 (Cockermouth to Cleator Moor).
