Eastwood - Temporary Parking Prohibitions, Directional Road Closures & Temporary Speed Limit Due To Gas Main Works
What is happening?

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14(1) - Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic, Parking, Stopping, Waiting, Loading And Unloading & 30-Mph Speed Limit Order 2026 - Rayleigh Road, Brooklands Avenue & Snakes Lane, Eastwood, Southend-On-Sea
Notice is hereby given that Southend-on-Sea City Council intends, no less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.Please Note These Closures & Prohibition Of Parking Will Be Completed In Phases And May Change Subject To Operational Needs
The Effect of the order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:-
Rayleigh Road
1. Parking, stopping, waiting, loading & unloading on Rayleigh Road from its junction with the A127 Arterial Road to outside no 137 Rayleigh Road. (In phases)
2. Suspension of double yellow lines on Rayleigh Road from Opposite No 43 to No 73 Rayleigh Road for resident parking only (permits to be displayed)
3. Suspend direction of traffic in Rayleigh Road Service Road from No 7 to No 21 (Traffic will now enter by No 21 Rayleigh Road and exit by No 7 Rayleigh Road)
4. Prohibition of traffic proceeding into Rayleigh Road at its junction with the A127 Arterial Road Directional closure northbound only)
5. Speed restriction from 30MPH to 20MPH on Rayleigh Road from its junction with Whitehouse Road to Prince Avenue (A127)
Brooklands Avenue
6. Parking, stopping, waiting, loading & unloading from its junction with Rayleigh Road to its junction with Park Avenue (Will be completed in phases)
Snakes Lane
7. Parking, stopping, waiting, loading & unloading from outside No 132 to outside No 48 on Snakes Lane.
8. Parking, stopping, waiting, loading & unloading on Snakes Lane limited waiting bays opposite the Ford Showroom.
9. Prohibition of traffic proceeding into Snakes Lane from Eastwoodbury Lane to Rayleigh Road (Directional Closure Westbound only)
The closure is scheduled to commence from 09:30 on the 21st of June 2026 until 15:30 on 14th September 2026 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.
The alternative route will be via;
Rayleigh Road Directional closure – Progress Road & Rayleigh Road or A127 Prince Avenue, Nestuda Way, Eastwoodbury Lane, Whitehouse Road.
Snakes Lane Directional closure – Whitehouse Road & Rayleigh Road.
The Order will come into effect on 21st June 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst Gas Main replacement works takes place.
Access for emergency vehicles, residents and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.
The prohibitions or restrictions will apply only during such time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.
Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction/prohibition imposed by this Notice may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice and removed under the provisions of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
