TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2026

(NORWICH)

Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984

Norfolk County Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, hereby give notice that:

i) THEY PROPOSE TO MAKE Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:

MAGDALEN ROAD/SPROWSTON ROAD – A) A1151 Magdalen Road/Sprowston Road from its junction with Magpie Road to its junction with Mousehold Lane and B) A1151 Sprowston Road from its junction with Gertrude Road to its junction with Mousehold Lane to facilitate surface dressing works, Road A will be temporarily closed (except for pedestrian access), and traffic over Road B (constituting any class of vehicle) shall be temporarily prohibited to park, stop, load and/or unload between 19:00 and 23:00 from 15th to 19th June 2026 (may continue until 31st July 2026).

Alternative route for Road A is via: Northbound – Bull Close Road, Charlton Road, St Crispins Road, Pitt Street, St Augustines Street, Aylsham Road, Cromer Road, Mile Cross Lane and Chartwell Road. Southbound – Chartwell Road, Mile Cross Lane, Aylsham Road, Magpie Road.

The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.

NB: The anticipated closure dates include 2 days for contingency in the event of inclement weather.

COLLEGE ROAD, BENSLEY ROAD, GIRTON ROADA) College Road from its junction with Jessop Road to its junction with Unthank Road, B) Bensley Road from its junction with College Road for 20m westwards and C) Girton Road from its junction with College Road for 20m westwards to facilitate gas main replacement works from 15th June to 11th September 2026 (may continue until 11th March 2027).

Alternative route is via:

  • Road A – Jessopp Road, Colman Road and Unthank Road.
  • Road B – College Road, Jessopp Road and Glebe Road.
  • Road C – College Road, Unthank Road and Glebe Road.

The works promoter is Cadent.

NB: Closures will take place in phases.

ii) THEY HAVE MADE Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:

BETHEL STREET

From its junction with Little Bethel Street for 30m north-westwards to facilitate telecommunications installation works, traffic (constituting any class of vehicle) over the Road shall be temporarily prohibited to park, stop, load, and/or unload between 09:30 and 15:00 from 10th to 11th June 2026 (may continue until 23rd July 2026).

  • Alternative route: N/A
  • Works promoter: Virgin Media

JUNCTION ROAD

From its junction with Avonmouth Road for 17m southwards to facilitate a water meter exchange between 08:00 and 16:00 on 10th June 2026 (may continue until 22nd July 2026).

Alternative route is via:

  • Drayton Road
  • Aylsham Road

and vice versa.

The works promoter is Anglian Water.

LEOPOLD ROAD

From 20m northwest of its junction with Belvedere Place for 20m north-westwards to facilitate urgent customer connection works.

The Order continues the provisions of the Notice dated 27th May 2026 that the road will be temporarily closed (except for pedestrian access) from 2nd to 3rd June 2026 (previously 28th May to 1st June 2026) (may continue until 15th July 2026).

Alternative route:

Leopold Road, Unthank Road, Mile End Road, Newmarket Road and vice versa.

Works promoter: Norfolk County Council.

UNTHANK ROAD

From its junction with Lincoln Street to its junction with Mile End Road to facilitate surface dressing and associated works from 6th to 14th June 2026 (may continue until 26th July 2026).

Alternative route:

Mile End Road, Newmarket Road, St Stephens Road, St Stephens Roundabout, Chapel Field Road, Unthank Road and vice versa.

Works promoter: Norfolk County Council.

NB: These works will take place in phases:

  • Phase 1: between 19:00 and 23:59 from 6th to 7th June 2026
  • Phase 2: between 19:00 and 23:59 from 13th to 14th June 2026.

    Unless otherwise stated, the effect of these Orders will be to prohibit the use by traffic of the named road(s)/footpath(s).

    In the event of the start date being delayed the new start date will be displayed on site in advance.

    Where an Order is for a reason other than works it is because of the likelihood of danger to the public or of serious damage to the road/footpath.

    Anticipated dates are stated but the Orders may continue until the end date where necessary or required.

    The Orders are revoked on the end date or on the actual date of removal of the prohibition/restriction where earlier without further notice.

    If necessary, the restrictions can have a maximum duration of:

    • 18 months, or
    • 6 months in respect of footpaths, cycle paths, bridleways, restricted byways, and byways open to all traffic (BOAT).

    Penalty: £1000 maximum fine on conviction and/or endorsement for contravention.
