Ipswich - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closure and Prohibition of Left Turn due to gas replacement works

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984: SECTION 14

TEMPORARY CLOSURE AND PROHIBITION OF

LEFT TURN ON PART OF THE U5601 GOWER STREET,

U5603 LITTLE WHIP STREET AND

U5602 GREAT WHIP STREET, IPSWICH

Suffolk County Council has made an order closing the following roads in the following phases:

* Phase 1

  * U5601 Gower Street, Ipswich at the junction with Little Whip Street

  * U5603 Little Whip Street, Ipswich eastbound from Vernon Street to Great Whip Street

* Phase 2

  * U5601 Gower Street, Ipswich at the junction with Little Whip Street

  * U5602 Great Whip Street, Ipswich eastbound from Little Whip Street for 50 metres northbound

  * U5602 Great Whip Street, Ipswich from Little Whip Street for 30 metres southbound

  * U5603 Little Whip Street, Ipswich eastbound from Vernon Street to Great Whip Street.

This is to facilitate gas replacement works. Other co-ordinated works may also take place during this period. Access will be open for pedestrians and cyclists.

The diversion routes will be:

* Little Whip Street: Vernon Street, Bridge Street, Dock Street, Great Whip Street and vice versa

* Gower Street: Dock Street, Great Whip Street, Vernon Street, Bridge Street, Dock Street, Great Whip Street and vice versa

* Great Whip Street: There is no diversion route.

For the duration of this closure there will also be a prohibition of left turn from the U5601 Gower Street, Ipswich onto Little Whip Street, Ipswich

It is intended that these measures will operate from 06/06/2026 - 28/06/2026 but, if necessary, the order may remain in force for 18 months (or longer if extended by the Minister).
