TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended) in order to facilitate the holding of a relevant event namely the West Area Event Barnes Park (‘The Event’) which is to take place from 2nd July 2026 to 4th July 2026, and to enable the participants to take part in and the public to spectate the Event. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit all vehicular, pedestrian, equestrian and cycle traffic along, and prohibit all vehicles from waiting and loading or unloading at any time along, the lengths of roads specified in Schedule 1 and will introduce residents permits and prohibit all vehicular traffic along the lengths of roads listed in Schedule 2 unless displaying a valid residents permit for the Event containing the vehicles registration number. The Order shall come into force at 06.00am on 2nd July 2026 and cease at 11.59pm on 4th July 2026. During the Event, diversions will be signposted via the adjacent highway network where applicable. The prohibitions shall apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. There will be exemptions in the Order for police, fire and rescue services and ambulance vehicles on emergency call and vehicles being used in connection with the Event.
SCHEDULE 1 PROHIBITION OF WAITING AND LOADING/UNLOADING AT ANY TIME Thursday 2nd July 2026 to Saturday 4th July 2026 Barnes Park Road both sides, between Durham Road and Mount Road; Ettrick Grove both sides, from its junction with Durham Road, for a distance of 90 metres in a northerly direction; and Ettrick Grove east side, from a point 25 metres north of its junction with Barnes View, in a southerly direction for 140 metres.
SCHEDULE 2 PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES, EXCEPT PERMIT HOLDERS Saturday 4th July 2026 Only: Barnes View for its entire extent; Mount Road South Back for its entire extent; Colchester Terrace between Mount Road South Back and Barnes View; Farnham Terrace between Mount Road and Barnes View; Hurstwood Road between Barnes Park Road and Richard Avenue; and Dunbreck Grove for its entire extent.
