Cumbria - Temporary Traffic Restrictions & Prohibitions Due To Windermere Marathon

What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (B5286 BRATHAY, C5026, B5285 AND U5774 HAWKSHEAD, NEAR AMBLESIDE, A592 NEWBY BRIDGE TO BOWNESS-ON-WINDERMERE AND U5222 NEWBY BRIDGE) (ASICS WINDERMERE MARATHON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the ASICS Windermere Marathon (“the Event”) and to enable members of the public to watch the Event and to reduce the disruption of traffic likely to be caused by the Event, Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order the effect of which is to:-

(1) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road:-

a. A5075 Borrans Road, Ambleside, from its junction with the A591 Lake Road extending in a north westerly direction to its junction with the A593 Clappersgate.

b. B5286 north of Hawkshead, near Ambleside, from its junction with the A593, Brathay Farm, Clappersgate, extending in a south westerly direction to its junction with the C5201 nr High Wray; and

c. C5021, nr High Wray, from its junction with the B5286, extending in a southerly direction to its junction with the B5285 Hawkshead; and

d. B5285 Hawkshead, from its junction with the C5026, extending in a south easterly direction to its junction with the U5057 Far Sawrey; and

e. U5057 Far Sawrey, from its junction with the B5285 extending in a southerly direction to its junction with the C5028 Cursey.

f. C5028 Cursey, from its junction with the U5057 extending in a southerly direction to its junction with the C5026.

Whilst no suitable alternative route for vehicles will be available for closures detailed at (a) to (f) above, it is anticipated that the traffic will be managed as follows;

(a) closure only required between 0825 hours and 0840 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026.

(b) closure only required between 0815 hours and 0925 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026;

(c) closure only required between 0815 hours and 1015 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026;

(d) closure only required between 0845 hours and 1045 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026;

(e) and (f) closure only required between 0845 hours and 1145 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026;

(2) Prohibit any vehicle from proceeding other than in a southerly direction along that section of the A592 (Newby Bridge), from its junction with the B5284 Long Tail Hill, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 10km.

A suitable alternative route for north bound vehicles will be available via the A590, A5074 and B5284 Long Tail Hill.

Duration: between 0900 hours and 1400 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026.

(3) Prohibit any vehicle from waiting or loading and unloading, at any time, on any day, (including blue badge holders) along the following lengths of road:-

i. A592 (north west side), from a point 225m southwest of the Beech Hill Hotel, extending in a south westerly direction for approx.100m; and

ii. A592 Rayrigg Road, Windermere (west side) from a point at the entrance to the Steamboat Museum, extending in a southerly direction for approx.270m; and

iii. U5222 Newby Bridge (north side), from its junction with the C5026, extending in a north westerly direction for approx.150m.

Duration: from 2100 hours on Saturday 13 June 2026 to 1600 hours on Sunday 14 June 2026

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 13 June 2026 and June continue in force for a period of up to 3 days from that date. It is anticipated that it will only be required on Saturday 13 June 2026 and Sunday 14 June 2026, and as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed and for the hours specified above.
