What is happening?
CITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
(WESTGATE ROAD) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the City of Newcastle upon Tyne intend, not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
2. The effect of the order is to: -
(a) suspend the existing Bus Lane restrictions on Westgate Road, eastbound (nearside lane) - from a point 62 metres east of its junction with Elswick Row to a point 53 metres west of its junction with Corporation Street.
3. Appropriate traffic management will be in place during the temporary suspension of the bus lane.
4. Exemptions will be provided for vehicles engaged in the works and police, fire brigade and ambulance vehicles on emergency call.
5. The Order will come into operation on 6 July 2026 and will continue, as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed, up to 13 July 2026 or until the proposed works are completed, whichever is the earlier.
