Public Notice - Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - The A3 And A24 GLA Roads and Side Roads (Clapham High Street and Balham High Road, London Borough of Lambeth and Wandsworth) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic and Stopping) Order 2026
1. Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Lambeth and Wandsworth hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.
2. The purpose of the Order is to enable resurfacing work to take place on the A3 Clapham High Street and A24 Balham High Road.
3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:
(1) entering, exiting or proceeding on the south-westbound cycle track on the A3 Clapham High Street between its junctions with St Luke’s Avenue and the extended north-eastern building line of No. 101 Clapham High Street;
(2) entering, exiting or proceeding on the south-westbound cycle track on the A3 Clapham High Street between the extended common boundary of Nos. 17 and 19 Clapham High Street and the extended common boundary of Nos. 21 and 23 Clapham High Street;
(3) entering, exiting or proceeding on the south-westbound cycle track on the A3 Clapham High Street between the extended common boundary of Nos. 49 and 51 Clapham High Street and the extended common boundary of Nos. 55 and 57 Clapham High Street;
(4) entering, exiting or proceeding on the north-eastbound cycle track on the A3 Clapham High Street between the extended common boundary of Nos. 62 and 64 Clapham High Street and the extended common boundary of Nos. 72 and 74 Clapham High Street;
(5) entering, exiting or proceeding on the north-eastbound cycle track on the A3 Clapham High Street between the extended common boundary of Nos. 40-42 and 48 Clapham High Street and the extended common boundary of Nos. 64 and 66 Clapham High Street;
(6) entering, exiting or proceeding on the north-eastbound cycle track on the A24 Balham High Road between its junction with Upper Tooting Park and the extended common boundary of Nos. 248 and 250 Balham High Road;
(7) entering or exiting St Luke’s Avenue at its junction with the A3 Clapham High Street;
(8) entering or exiting Tremadoc Road at its junction with the A3 Clapham High Street;
(9) entering or exiting Edgeley Road at its junction with the A3 Clapham High Street;
(10) entering or exiting Gauden Road at its junction with the A3 Clapham High Street;
(11) entering or exiting Lendal Terrace at its junction with the A3 Clapham High Street;
(12) entering or exiting Bedford Road at its junction with the A3 Clapham Road;
(13) entering, exiting or proceeding on Marius Road between its junction with the A24 Balham High Road and the extended western building line of No. 2 Marius Road;
(14) stopping in the parking and Disabled Persons Vehicles Bay outside of Nos. 21 and 23 Clapham High Street;
(15) stopping on the A24 Balham High Road between its junctions with Upper Tooting Park and Marius Road;
(16) stopping in the parking and Disabled Persons Vehicles Bay on Marius Road at the side of No. 260 Balham High Road and outside No. 2 Marius Road;
The Order will also:
(17) close the pedestrian crossing outside No. 57 and 64 Clapham High Street;
(18) close the north-eastbound bus lane on the A3 Clapham High Street between its junctions with Clement Avenue and Edgeley Road. Also, between its junction with Voltaire Road and the extended common boundary of Nos. 2 and 4 Clapham High Street;
(19) suspend the one-way operation on Lendal Terrace between its junctions with A3 Clapham High Street and Bedford Road permitting two-way operation.
Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.
The Order will be effective at certain times between 22nd June 2026 and 26th June 2027 every night 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM, or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.
4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:
(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;
(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.
5. At such times as, the prohibitions are in force an alternative route will be indicated by traffic signs;
For St Luke’s Avenue via Clapham High Street, Tremadoc Road and Kenwyn Road or in reverse to normal route of travel.
For Tremadoc Road south-eastbound traffic via Clapham High Road, Cato Road and Kendora Road to normal route of travel.
For Tremadoc Road north-westbound traffic via Kenwyn Road and St Luke’s Avenue to normal route of travel.
For Edgeley Road southbound traffic via Voltaire Road and Clapham Manor Street to normal route of travel.
For Edgeley Road northbound traffic via Clapham High Street and Voltaire Road to normal route of travel.
For Lendal Terrace via Clapham High Street, Clapham Common South Side, Long Road, Rookery Road, Clapham Common North Side, Old Town, North Street, Wandsworth Road, Albion Avenue, Lark Hall Rise, Gauden Road, Chelsham Road, Union Road and Clapham Road to normal route of travel.
For Gauden Road via Chelsham Road, Union Road and Clapham Road or in reverse to normal route of travel.
For Bedford Road southbound traffic via Clapham Road, South Lambeth Road, Parry Street, Wandsworth Road, Vauxhall Bridgefoot, Kennington Lane, Durham Street, Harleyford Street, Kennington Oval, Harleyford Street, Camberwell New Road, Brixton Road, Effra Road, St Matthew’s Road, Brixton Hill, Acre Lane to normal route of travel.
Or via:
Clapham High Street and Clapham Park Road.
For Bedford Road northbound traffic via Clapham Park Road, Clapham Common South Side, Long Road (westbound), Clapham Common North Side (westbound), The Avenue, Clapham Common West Side, Clapham Common North Side (eastbound), Long Road (eastbound), Clapham Common South Side and Clapham High Street to normal route of travel.
For Marius Road via Balham High Road and Upper Tooting Park or in reverse to normal route of travel.
