What is happening?
ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984
The East Sussex (U6196 Burgh Hill, Hurst Green)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026 No.2
To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1) (b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;
Temporary Road Closure
Burgh Hill – from the junction with A265 Station Road to the junction with A265 High Street.
A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A265 Haremere Hill.
The Order commences 25 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier.
However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 25 and 29 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions. If you require further information telephone Network Management on 0345 60 80 193.
The East Sussex (C19 Bodiam Road, Hurst Green)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
To allow South East Water to carry out works, East Sussex County Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Sections 14(1) and 15(1)
(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which will temporarily close the following length of road;
Temporary Road Closure Bodiam Road – from the junction with A21 London Road to the junction with C19 The Stage.
A safe route will be provided for pedestrians and vehicular access for residents and to properties maintained whenever possible with an alternative route for through traffic via A21(T) London Road – A229 Coopers Corner – C90 Merriments Lane – C90 Merriments Lane (KCC) – B2244 Hastings Road (KCC) – B2244 Hawkhurst Road – C19 Bodiam Road, The Stage and vice versa.
The Order commences 22 June 2026 and lasts for a period of 18 months, or until works are completed, whichever is earlier. However, it is anticipated works will be undertaken between 22 and 24 June 2026 depending upon the weather conditions. The East Sussex (A268 Hawkhurst Road, Flimwell)
(40mph Speed Limit) Order 2026
NOTICE is hereby given that East Sussex County Council have made an Order under Sections 84 (1) and (2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, and of all other enabling powers, which will reduce the speed limit in the following length of road;
40 mph Speed Limit A268 Hawkhurst Road, Flimwell from a point 87 metres east of the eastern kerbline of the A21 eastwards for a distance of 1044 metres.
A copy of the Order which will come into effect on 8 June 2026, plan showing the length of road, the order being revoked and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the Order may be inspected in Reception, East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE on Monday to Friday between 9am and 4pm and online at; https://consultation.eastsussex.gov.uk/economy-transportenvironment/a268-hawkhurst-road-flimwell-40mph-speedlimit
Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act of 1984, or on the grounds that any requirement of the Road Traffic Regulation Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, may within six weeks of the date of this notice, apply to the High Court for this purpose.
