THE COUNCIL OF THE BOROUGH OF NORTH TYNESIDE COUNCIL
NORTH ROAD & PRESTON ROAD, NORTH SHIELDS PROPOSED TOUCAN CROSSING

North Tyneside Council gives notice that it proposes under Section 23(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police, to:

a) establish a signalised crossing (toucan crossing) on North Road, North Shields, at a point 19 metres south-west of its junction with Preston Road.

b) upgrade the existing signalised crossing (toucan crossing) on Preston Road, North Shields, adjacent to John Spence Community High School.

The proposals will increase safety for all road users and contribute to ensuring that highway conditions are conducive to support greater usage of cycling, walking and wheeling.

If you wish to object to the proposals, you should send the grounds for your objection in writing to the undersigned or via email to democraticsupport@ northtyneside.gov.uk by 18 June 2026. Any objections received may be published as part of any reports to councillors on the matter.
