THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND
(CLOSURE OF ROKER TERRACE WEST BACK AND FOOTPATH OPPOSITE ROKER HOTEL SUNDERLAND)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make two Orders under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit (i) all traffic along Roker Terrace West Back for its entire length and (ii) all pedestrians along the footpath opposite Roker Hotel that links Marine Walk and A183 Roker Terrace from A183 Roker Terrace to its northern extent. The Orders are required to enable electrical connection works on or near the road. The Orders will come into operation on 13th July 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Orders will be 18 months in relation to (i) above and 6 months in relation to (ii) above, however it is estimated the closure will only be in operation for approximately 3 months from the commencement of the works. All traffic will be prohibited from the road and footpath above (except vehicles and personnel involved in the works) until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. Pedestrian access to affected properties and access to the car park will be maintained throughout the closure. A diversion for vehicles will be provided via the adjacent highway network.
Dated 4th June 2026 Patrick Melia OBE, Chief Executive, Sunderland City Council, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA
