What is happening?

Transport for London Public Notice

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 

THE A20 GLA ROAD (SIDCUP BY-PASS AND SIDCUP ROAD, LONDON BOROUGHS OF BEXLEY AND BROMLEY AND ROYAL BOROUGH OF 
GREENWICH) PRESCRIBED ROUTES TRAFFIC ORDER 2026    

1. Transport for London, hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above named Order under sections 6 and 7 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. 

2. The general nature and effect of the Order, when traffic signs are indicatingand for reasons of (amongst other things) maintenance or, repair works, road traffic accidents, vehicle breakdowns or spillages on the roads, would be to prohibit any vehicle from: 

(1) entering, exiting or proceeding on Sidcup By-pass between the administrative boundary of the London Borough of Bromley with Kent County Council and its junction with Sidcup Road;  

(2) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Sidcup Road between its junctions with Sidcup By-pass and Westhorne Avenue; 

(3) entering or proceeding on the unnamed on and off-slip roads between the roundabout at the junctions with Perry Street and Chislehurst Road hereafter referred to as Frognal Corner Roundabout, and Sidcup By-pass;

(4) entering or proceeding on the unnamed on and off-slip roads between the roundabout at the junctions with Sevenoaks Way and Cray Road hereafter referred to as Crittall’s Corner Roundabout, and Sidcup By pass. 

Works may be phased as such that not all restrictions may apply at any one time.  

3. The roads which would be affected by the Orders are A20 Sidcup By-pass and A20 Sidcup Road. 

4. The prohibitions referred to in article 2 above would not apply to: 

(a) any vehicle being used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes or any pedestrian engaged in such purposes; or 

(b) anything done with the permission of or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London; 

(c) any vehicle or pedestrian engaged in works for the cleansing, maintenance, repair, improvement or reconstruction of the roads; 

(d) any vehicle engaged in the removal of any obstruction to traffic in the roads. 

5. A copy of the Order, a statement of Transport for London’s reasons for the proposals, a map indicating the location and effect of the Order and copies of any Order revoked, suspended or varied by the Order can be inspected by
visiting our website at https://haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/tro  and selecting the relevant borough and reference the Traffic Order relates to or by appointment during normal office hours at our office at the address below.

6. All objections and other representations to the proposed Order must be
made in writing and must specify the grounds on which they are made.
Objections and representations must be sent to Transport for London,
Streets Traffic Order Team, Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, London, SE1 8NJ
quoting reference SNO/REGULATION/STOT/RC/TRO, GLA/2026/0453, to
arrive before 26th June 2026.  Objections and other representations may be
communicated to other persons who may be affected. 

7. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be
indicated by traffic signs via M25, Dartford By-Pass, East Rochester Way,
Rochester Way Relief Road and Westhorne Avenue or reverse a to normal
route of travel. Traffic at intermediate junctions will be diverted along the
remaining open direction of travel to join diversion route.
