24 HOUR CLOSURE OF LAY-BYS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways intends to make an Order on the A3, A27, A31, A34, A303, and A404 Trunk Roads in the Counties of Surrey, Hampshire, and Oxfordshire, and the Unitary Authorities of Dorset, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Buckinghamshire Council under Sections 14(1)(a), 14(1)(c) and 14(7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on, or in the vicinity of, the road.

The effect of the Order in this area would be to authorise the 24-hour closure of any layby adjacent to either carriageway of the A3 between Hindhead Tunnel and Horndean Interchange (A3(M) Junction 1).

This measure would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake any kind of maintenance and renewal work, and would operate whether work is being conducted or not.

The duration of each closure would be unlimited and linked to the maintenance work being undertaken on each occasion, Control of the closures would be approved and controlled by Network Availability management. The restrictions would begin on or after 1st July 2026.

The Order would come into force on 1st July 2026 and remain in force until 24th December 2027.

No diversions apply.

The temporary closures would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
