What is happening?

DARLINGTON BOROUGH COUNCIL

(PUBLIC FOOTPATH 11 PARISH OF HURWORTH)

DIVERSION ORDER 2026

The above named Order was made on the 18th May 2026 pursuant to section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 and section 53A(2) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. The effect of the Order will be to divert the length of Public Footpath 11 Hurworth described in Part 1 of the Schedule below and replace it with the footpath described in Part 2 of the Schedule, and to amend the definitive map and statement accordingly. A copy of the Order, the Order Map and a location plan have been placed and may be seen free of charge at Darlington Borough Council, 17 Allington Way, Darlington DL1 4QB from 9.0 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Mondays to Fridays. Copies of the documents may be bought there at the price of £1. These can also be viewed on the Council’s website at the following address https://www.darlington.gov.uk/transport-roads-and-parking/public-rights-of-way/public-path-orders/ . Copies may also be requested by phoning 01325-405492; or by writing to the Assistant Director – Law and Governance, Darlington Borough Council, Town Hall, Darlington DL1 5QT or by emailing footpathorders@darlington.gov.uk. Any representations about or objections to the Order may be sent in writing to the Assistant Director – Law and Governance, Darlington Borough Council, Town Hall, Darlington DL1 5QT (ref: AE) or by email to footpathorders@darlington.gov.uk not later than the 29th June 2026. Please state the grounds on which they are made. If no such representations or objections are duly made, or if any so made are withdrawn, the Council may confirm the Order as an unopposed Order. If the Order is sent to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs for confirmation any representations and objections which have not been withdrawn will be sent with the Order.

SCHEDULE

PART 1 - DESCRIPTION OF SITE OF EXISTING FOOTPATH

Starting at Point A (NZ 29928 09418) heading east northeast for approximately 180 metres first across an area of waste ground, then obliquely across an access track, passing through Point B (NZ 29995 09448) to Point C (NZ 30104 09468) onto a junction with Hurworth Public Bridleway 10 (Blind Lane) where this section of the footpath terminates. The footpath resumes from a point to the north of Hurworth Public Bridleway 10 (Blind Lane) heading north east. Width – Undefined

PART 2 - DESCRIPTION OF SITE OF NEW FOOTPATH

Starting at Point A (NZ 29928 09418), on the existing route, the proposed route proceeds in a southward direction to Point D (NZ 29931 09416). The route then continues in an east-northeast direction through Point E (NZ 30001 09437) and finally to Point C (NZ 30104 09468) on to a junction with Hurworth Public Bridleway 10 (Blind Lane) where this section of the footpath terminates. The footpath resumes from a point to the north of Hurworth Public Bridleway 10 (Blind Lane) heading north east. Width – 2 metres
