THE OLDHAM - ST LUKE’S PRIMARY SCHOOL AREA

CHADDERTON EXPERIMENTAL PROHIBITION OF MOTOR VEHICLES & ONE WAY TRAFFIC ORDER 2026

The Oldham Borough Council have today made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which is to prohibit all motor vehicles from proceeding along the entire lengths of Queens Road, Albion Street, Buckley Street, George Street and James Street South during term time Monday to Friday 8.15am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm AND to impose a One-Way driving restriction on Queens Road - from its junction with Hunt Lane to its junction with Buckley Street (westbound only) and on Buckley Street- from its junction with Queens Road to its junction with Hunt Lane (northbound only) and on George Street - from its junction with Buckley Street to its junction with Hunt Lane (eastbound only).

The Order will come into operation on 8 th June 2026 for 18 months.

The Executive Director, Environmental Services or any person authorised by him, if it appears to him or that person to be essential in the interests of the expeditious, convenient and safe movement of traffic, and after:-

(i) consulting the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, and

(ii) giving such public notice as the Secretary of State may direct, may make modifications of any description to this Order (other than additions) or suspend it.

The Council will consider in due course whether or not to continue the Order in force indefinitely. Within a period of 6 months from the coming into force of this Order any person may object to the making of an Order for the purposes of such indefinite continuation.

Any such objections should be sent to env.traffic@oldham.gov.uk or the Environment Group Solicitor, Oldham Borough Council, Spindles West Street, Oldham OL1 1LF in writing, stating the title of the Order to which they relate and the grounds for making them. Any objections received will be made available for public inspection The Order and a map showing the length of road referred to and a Statement of the Council’s Reasons for making the Order may be examined 8.40am and 5.00pm Monday to Friday Tel. 0161 770 4836 Spindles Oldham Ref: LJM/ TO26/4 during the objection period.

If you wish to question the validity of the Order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the Order, you may within 6 weeks from the date of this notice apply to the High Court for the purpose.
