National Highways Limited(a) gives notice that they have made an Order under powers conferred by Section 14(1)(b) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 on the A20 Trunk Road in the County of Kent because of the risk posed to the public from unpermitted turning.
The effect of the Regulation is to formalise the restrictions in place including proposed signage changes at Union Street Junction on the A20 as follows:
1) to prohibit U-turns –
i) from the main carriageway of the A20 in either direction at Union Street junction; and
ii) from the filter lane turning from the eastbound A20 into Union Street into the westbound carriageway of the A20;
2) to prohibit a right turn from the westbound carriageway of the A20 into the premises currently operated by Costa Coffee; and
3) to specify otherwise that all traffic should proceed only in the directions indicated by road markings and/or traffic signals in:
i) all the lanes of the main carriageway of the A20;
ii) the filter lane turning from the eastbound A20 into Union Street; and
iii) the exit road from the premises currently operated by Costa Coffe
These measures are in the interests of road safety.
It is expected that the danger period will start on or after Friday 12th June 2026.
The Order will come into force on the 12th June 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when replaced by a permanent provision.
No diversions apply.
