What is happening?
THE CITY OF EDINBURGH COUNCIL
(GRACEMOUNT SQUARE AREA)
(TEMPORARY ROAD RESTRICTION AND TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026 - TEMP/26/72
The Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be that for a temporary period, to facilitate Scottish Water mains investigation works, no person shall:
(a) drive or cause or permit to be driven any vehicle on any part of: Phase 1
(i) Gracemount Sq, from 6m north of the extended south building line of No.11 Gracemount Sq, southwards and then eastwards to the extended east building line of No.24a Gracemount Sq; Phase 2
(ii) Gracemount Sq, from the extended east kerbline of Gracemount Pl, eastwards for 40m; & Phase 3
(iii) Gracemount ave, from 12.5 m south-east of the extended north-west building line of No.79 Gracemount Ave, north-westwards for 30m.
The road closures for Phases 1 to 3 shall not be enacted at the same time;
(b) except with the permission of a Parking Attendant, cause or permit any vehicle to wait or load onto or unload from any vehicle at any time on any part of both sides of:
(i) Gracemount Sq, from 6m north of the extended south building line of No.11 Gracemount Sq, southwards and then eastwards to the extended east building line of No.24a Gracemount Sq;
(ii) Gracemount Sq, from the extended east kerbline of Gracemount Pl, eastwards for 40m; &
(iii) Gracemount ave, from 12.5 m south-east of the extended north-west building line of No.79 Gracemount Ave, north-westwards for 30m; &
(c) no person shall walk or cause or permit any person to walk on that part of the footway/footpath on Gracemount Sq/Burnhead Cres (east to west footway/footpath), from Gracemount Sq to Burnhead Cres.
Existing parking restrictions will be suspended on the affected sections of roads described in (b).
The Order shall have effect from 31/05/26 to 20/06/26.
The alternative routes for through vehicular traffic in relation to the road closures are: (i) Phase 1 will be by way of Gracemount Sq - Gracemount Sq, Gracemount Ave & Gracemount Sq; ( ii ) Phase 2 will be by way of Gracemount Sq – (a) Gracemount Sq, Gracemount Ave, Burnhead Cres & Gracemount Pl; & (b) Gracemount Sq, Gracemount Ave & Gracemount Sq; (iii) Phase 3 will be by way of Gracemount ave- Gracemount Ave, Gracemount Sq, Gracemount Pl, Burnhead Cres & Gracemount Ave. The alternative route for pedestrian traffic for the footway/footpath closure of Gracemount Sq/Burnhead Cres (east to west footway/ footpath), will be by way of: Gracemount Sq (southern footway), Burnhead Cres (north to south footpath) & Burnhead Cres (northern footway).
