What is happening?

Temporary Closure of Various Roads, Shaftesbury

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. 

All vehicles, cyclists and horse riders will be prohibited from proceeding along Various Roads, Shaftesbury as listed: 
[i] Old Boundary Road between Salisbury Street and St Rumbolds Road; [ii] St Rumbolds Road in two phases [a] between Old Boundary Road and St Georges Road, [b] between St Georges Road and Christys Lane; 

[iii] Coppice Street in three phases [a] between High Street and St Martins Lane, [b] between St Martins Lane and 41 Coppice Street, [c] between 41 Coppice Street and Christys Lane.

The order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 22nd June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 7th August 2026. 

This Order will enable SGN, safe access to carry out essential gas main replacement works.

Temporary Closure of Various Roads in The Parish of Castleton 

DORSET COUNCIL intend, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. 

The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 23rd June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 7th July 2026. 

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works. 

The effect of the order is as follows: [1] To impose temporary road closure on Various roads in the Parish of Castleton as listed: [i] Hardings House Lane, Castleton from junction with B3148 Marston Road to junction with Sandford Orcas Road; [ii] Sandford Orcas Road, Castle from junction with Hardings House Lane to junction with Clatcombe Lane. 

Please note the closures will be in operation, as and when indicated by signs on site. Advanced warning signs will be placed on the road two weeks advance of the closure to indicate the exact dates the closure will affect the roads. 

[2] To impose clearway and parking suspension as indicated by signs on site to prevent waiting or parking on the highway along Various roads in the Parish of Castleton as listed: [i] Hardings House Lane, Castleton from junction with B3148 Marston Road to junction with Sandford Orcas Road; [ii] Sandford Orcas Road, Castle from junction with Hardings House Lane to junction with Clatcombe Lane.

It will come into operation on 24th June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 8th July 2026. 

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works. The effect of the order is as follows: 

[1] To impose temporary road closure of East Farm Lane, Pulham in it's entirety (in both directions), a distance of approximately 670 metres. Please note the closures will be in operation, as and when indicated by signs on site. It will come into operation on 19th June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 3rd July 2026. 

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works. The effect of the order is as follows:
[1] To impose temporary road closure on Thornford Road, Sherborne from junction with Wingfield Place to junction with A352 (in both directions), a distance of approximately 3910 metres. 

Please note the closures will be in operation, as and when indicated by signs on site. Advanced warning signs will be placed on the road two weeks advance of the closure to indicate the exact dates the closure will affect the roads. 

[2] To impose clearway and parking suspension as indicated by signs on site to prevent waiting or parking on the highway along Thornford Road, Sherborne from junction with Wingfield Place to junction with A352 (in both directions), a distance of approximately 3910 metres. 

Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction imposed by this Notice may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986. It will come into operation on 25th June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 9th July 2026. 

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out carriageway maintenance and resurfacing works. The effect of the order is as follows: [1] To impose temporary road closure on C34, Kings Stag & Hazelbury Bryan from junction with B3143, Kings Stag to junction with Partway Lane, Hazelbury Bryan (in both directions), a distance of approximately 2470 metres. Please note the closures will be in operation, as and when indicated by signs on site. Advanced warning signs will be placed on the road two weeks advance of the closure to indicate the exact dates the closure will affect the roads. 

[2] To impose clearway and parking suspension as indicated by signs on site to prevent waiting or parking on the highway along C34, Kings Stag & Hazelbury Bryan from junction with B3143, Kings Stag to junction with Partway Lane, Hazelbury Bryan (in both directions), a distance of approximately 2470 metres.

Temporary Traffic Management Order, Unnamed Road, Hilfield 

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. 

It will come into operation on 04 June 2026 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 18 June 2026.
This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out surface treatment works. 

The effect of the Order is as follows: [1] To impose a temporary road closure on UNNAMED ROAD, HILFIELD, between its junction with Hilfield Lane and Hilfield Road, a distance of approximately 1420 metres. 

[2] To impose a parking suspension, as indicated by signs on site, to prevent parking on the highway along UNNAMED ROAD, HILFIELD, between its junction with Hilfield Lane and Hilfield Road, a distance of approximately 1420 metres. 

[3] To impose a clearway, as indicated by signs on site, to prevent waiting on the highway along UNNAMED ROAD, HILFIELD, between its junction with Hilfield Lane and Hilfield Road, a distance of approximately 1420 metres. 

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Notice of Confirmation of Public Path Diversion and Definitive Map and Statement Modification Order 
Town and Country Planning Act 1990, Section 257 Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, Section 53A(2) 
Dorset Council (Footpath 9, Stalbridge) Public Path Diversion Order 2026 

On 11 May 2026 Dorset Council confirmed the above order. Whilst this order is confirmed it is not yet operational, by virtue of Article 2 of the order. 

The effect of the order as confirmed will be to divert Footpath 9, Stalbridge as shown on the order map as follows: 

From the current route: From its junction with Footpath 8 at ST 7195 1698, south west through Middle Farm to the public highway at ST 7184 1680. (No recorded width) 

To the new route: From its junction with Footpath 8 at ST 7186 1698 approximately 5 metres south to ST 7186 1697 then approximately 30 metres west to ST 7184 1697 then approximately 80 metres generally south to ST 7185 1688 then generally south west for approximately 20 metres to ST 7183 1687 approximately 47 metres west south west to ST 7179 1687 and then approximately 36 metres generally south on a minimum 1:12 slope to meet the public highway at ST 7179 1683. Width 2.5m

The order comes into force on the date on which Dorset Council certify that the terms of Article 2 of the order have been complied with but if any person aggrieved by the order desires to question its validity or that of any provision contained in it on the ground that it is not within the powers of the above Act, or on the ground that any requirement of that Act or any regulation made under it has not been complied with in relation to the confirmation of the order. 

He or she may apply to the High Court for any of these purposes under section 287 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 within 6 weeks from the date on which notice is first published as required by paragraph 7 of Schedule 14 to the Act.

The County of Dorset (A357, Sturminster Newton) (30mph Speed Limit) (No.16) Order 2026 

Dorset Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended. 

When the Order comes into operation on the 5th June 2026 the effect of the Order will be to introduce a 30mph speed limit along part of the A357, Sturminster Newton.
