What is happening?
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 21 May 2026 in respect of the location numbered (1) and on Thursday, 28 May 2026 in respect of the locations numbered (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) & (9). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (10), (11), (12), (13) & (14).
(1) KINGS SQUARE (CONTINUATION), YORK
This Order continues in force The York (Kings Square) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2026 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kings Square, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period commencing at 1801 hours on Friday, 22 May 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 05 June 2026 (works period) or on a date when sewer maintenance works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Colliergate and Kings Square are suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said roads. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Street, Parliament Street, Pavement.
(2) PRECENTORS COURT, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Precentors Court, York between the junction with High Petergate and the projected south-eastern boundary of property No. 10 (closed road) during the period when filming works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1230hrs on Friday, 29 May 2026 and ending at 0001hrs on Sunday, 31 May 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1230hrs and 0001hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period via.
(3) WETHERBY ROAD, ACOMB
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Wetherby Road, Acomb between the junction with Bland Lane and a point 105 metres east of said junction (closed road) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Sunday, 31 May 2026 and ending at 0500hrs on Monday, 01 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2000hrs and 0500hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Wetherby Road, York Road, Acomb Road, Poppleton Road, Boroughbridge Road and A1237.
(4) EASTERN TERRACE, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Eastern Terrace, York between the junction with East Parade and a point 56 metres north of said junction (closed road) during the period when construction works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0700hrs on Monday, 01 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 07 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed throughout the works period. Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be always maintained. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via East Parade, Mill Lane, Heworth Green and Heworth Road.
(5) CALF CLOSE, HAXBY
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Calf Close, Haxby between the (i) projected northern boundary line of property No. 59 and a point 85 metres west of said location, (ii) between a point 20 metres east of the projected eastern boundary of property No. 99 and a point 54 metres south-eastern of said location (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 02 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 19 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed throughout the works period. Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be always maintained. There will not be an alternative route for diverted vehicles.
(6) EASTLANDS AVENUE, ACOMB
This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of footpath on Eastlands Avenue, Acomb between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property No’s. 11 and 17 (closed footpath) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Wednesday, 03 June 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Tuesday, 09 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the footpath will only be closed throughout the works period. Access for residents and emergencies will be maintained throughout. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Stones Close Footpath.
(7) THE SHAMBLES, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on The Shambles, York between its junctions with Newgate and Pavement (closed road) during the period when filming works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1800hrs on Thursday, 04 June 2026 and ending at 0200hrs on Friday, 05 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 1800hrs and 0200hrs each day of the works period. There will not be an alternative route for diverted vehicles during the works period.
(8) QUEEN STREET, YORK
This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Queen Street, York between its junctions with Station Road and a location 65 metres north-west of its junction with Blossom Street (closed road) during the period when station gateway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Monday, 01 June 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 25 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2100hrs and 0600hrs each night of the works period and only on nights between Mondays and Fridays. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Inner Ring Road. Pedestrian and cycle diversions will also be put in place.
(9) PROW 55/197/10 (CONTINUATION), YORK
This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public right of way on PROW 55/197/10, York (closed public right of way) due to danger arising from an unsafe bridge thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 02 June 2026 and ending at 2359hrs on Wednesday, 11 November 2026 (danger period) or at a time when the danger has been remedied whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure public safety. This Order continues the temporary road closure Notice which had an end date of 2359hrs on Sunday, 10 May 2026.
(10) SKELDERGATE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Skeldergate, York between the junction with Micklegate and Fetter Lane (closed carriageway) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 08 June 2026 and ending at 0600hrs on Tuesday, 09 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the carriageway will only be closed for the duration of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.
(11) DALE STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Dale Street, York between the projected north-eastern boundaries of property No’s. 32a & 48 (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 08 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 12 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will be closed throughout the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for pedestrians, residents’ vehicles and emergency vehicles will be always maintained during the works period.
(12) KYME STREET, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kyme Street, York between the junction with Falkland Street and the projected northern boundary of property No. 22 (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 08 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Monday, 08 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be for the duration of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Baile Hill Terrace, Newton Terrace and Victor Street.
(13) MONKS CROSS LINK, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Monks Cross Link, York between the roundabout junction with Monks Cross Drive and the junction with Jockey Lane (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 08 June 2026 and ending at 1630hrs on Sunday, 05 July 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Jockey Lane, Malton Road, A1237 and Monks Cross Link.
(14) ST SAVIOURS PLACE, YORK
This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on St Saviours Place, York between its junction with St Saviourgate and the projected eastern boundary of property No. 3, St Saviours place (closed roads) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 09 June 2026 and ending at 1700hrs on Friday, 12 June 2026 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.
The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
