A27 Trunk Road (Havant) - Temporary Traffic Restrictions
What is happening?
TRUNK ROAD – HAVANT
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of Hampshire and the Unitary Authority of the City of Portsmouth, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order is:-
1) to authorise the closure of:-
a) both carriageways of the A27 between Harts Farm/Broad Marsh
Interchange (A2030/B2177) and Warblington Interchange (A259); and
b) all the slip roads leading to and from the carriageways described in a);
2) to impose the following 24-hour mandatory 50, 40 and 30 speed limit options as and when required:i) 50 mph:
a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 2160 metres east of the eastern underbridge at Farlington Interchange (A2030) and a point approximately
730 metres east of Harts Farm Interchange overbridge; and
b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 20 metres west of the mainline railway underbridge
(Warblington) and a point approximately 85 metres west of
Warblington Interchange underbridge (A259);
c) the slip road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the A27 at
Harts Farm Interchange; ii) 40mph;
a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 730 metres east of Harts Farm Interchange overbridge and a point approximately 40 metres east of Wade
Court Road underbridge; and
b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 85 metres west of Warblington Interchange underbridge (A259) and a point approximately 125 metres west of
Brockhampton Road overbridge);
c) the roads leading to and from both carriageways of the A27 at
Langstone Interchange (A3023); and
d) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A27 at
Warblington Interchange (A259); iii) 30mph – as ii.) a) to d) above;
3) to impose a 24-hour lane width restriction of 2.0 metres on;
a) the outside lane of the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between points approximately 270 metres and 1160 metres east of
Brockhampton Road overbridge; and
b) the outside lane of the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points approximately 200 metres west and 1110 metres west of Wade Court Road underbridge;
4) to impose a 24-hour prohibition on pedestrians, any person using a pedal cycle with four wheels or fewer and not being a mechanically propelled vehicle, and any person using an electric scooter or similar device, on both carriageways of the A27 between the exit and entry slips at Langstone Interchange (A3023).
These measures are in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge works and all associated works.
It is expected that the work will last for approximately 4 months starting on or after Monday 11th June 2026. Closures will take place overnight starting at 21:00 hours for a maximum period of 9 hours and operate mainly to set up and clear other traffic management. Details will be available on the National Highways website.
The Order will come into force on the 9th of June 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the closures will be diverted using the A27, B2177, B2149, Bartons Road, B2148, Southleigh Road, and the A259 in either direction. Pedestrians and persons using personal transport as 4) above will be directed to leave and re-join.
The diversion in operation will vary according to the closure in force and the class of traffic being diverted.
The temporary closures, speed, and width restrictions,, and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
