Stanley - Temporary Footpath Closure Due To Gas Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Westfields and Eastfields, Stanley) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order 2026

The Council on 22/5/2026 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath. Westfields: A 214 metre length from the side of no. 10 to the rear of no. 50, a 69 metre length from the rear of no. 10 to the side of no. 17, an 86 metre length from the front of no. 97 to the rear of no. 117, a 42 metre length from the side of no 110 to the rear of no. 11, a 140 metre length from the front of no. 71 to the rear of no. 61, a 98 metre length from the front of no. 33 to the rear of no. 52, a 187 metre length in a clockwise direction surrounding Townley Court Flats. Eastfields: A 73 metre length to the front of no. 1-3 Ullswater Court and 12-17 Eastfields, a 38 metre length to the front of no. 37-42, a 37 metre length to the rear of no. 20-25, a 141 metre length from the front of no. 65 to the front of no. 52, a 71 metre length from the front of no. 43-51, a 127 metre length from the electric sub station to the side of no. 95 to 103, a 119 metre length to the front of no. 78-94, a 126 metre length from the rear of no. 75 to the front of no. 66 and an 80 metre length from the side of no. 34/35 to the side of no. 27/28 to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of the closure, any alternative routes for pedestrians will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are required from 8am on Monday 1/6/2026 and for the duration of the works anticipated to be 24 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
