What is happening?

THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (ST. LUKE’S TERRACE AREA) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicle traffic from the sections of carriageways described in the schedule below. The Order is required to facilitate gas main repair works. The order will come into force on 20th June 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be eighteen months. However, the works are expected to be completed within 26 days with St Luke’s Terrace closed for 9 days only. All vehicles will be prohibited from the sections of carriageway described in the schedule (except for vehicles involved in the works), until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided via the adjacent highways network. SCHEDULE: St Lukes Terrace from its junction with Midmoor Road, to its northern extent; Midmoor Road from its junction with St Lukes Terrace to its junction with St Lukes Terrace West Back; East Moor Road from its junction with St Lukes Terrace to its junction with St Lukes Terrace East Back; and Stratfield Street for its entire length.
