What is happening?
PUBLIC NOTICE
THE CITY OF SOUTHAMPTON
(MOVING TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS) (AMENDMENT 4) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT SOUTHAMPTON CITY COUNCIL made the above Order on 20th May 2026, the effects of which will be:
- To help make school journeys safer, School Streets restrict vehicle access during key times. Some vehicles are eligible for exemptions, allowing access without receiving a Penalty Charge Notice.
Southampton City Councils School Streets are in line with national guidance from Active Travel England. However, we plan to introduce additional local exemptions to better support residents and schools, while keeping the restrictions effective and enforceable by camera.
To achieve these aims we’re updating our Traffic Regulation Order to align with our School Streets Permits and Access Guidance document.

Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or any of its provisions, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of the relevant enabling Act, or that a requirement of any such enabling Act or of any relevant regulations made thereunder has not been complied with, may, within 6 weeks from the date of the Order, make application for this purpose to the High Court.
