What is happening?

Highways Act 1980
The Council of the City of Plymouth (A386 Tavistock Road (Woolwell to the George) Classified Road) (Side Roads) Order 2026

The Council of the City of Plymouth (“the Council”) hereby give notice that it has made, and submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport for confirmation, an Order under Sections 14 and 125 of the Highways Act 1980 authorising the Council to:-

(a) improve highways (including raising, lowering or otherwise altering);

(b) stop up highways;

(c) construct new highways;

(d) stop up private means of access to premises; and

(e) provide new means of access to said premises;

all on or in the vicinity of the route of the classified road known as Tavistock Road (A386) which the Council is proposing to construct and improve from the junction with Morgan Road/Southway Drive to a location on Tavistock Road approximately aligned with 475 Tavistock Road north of the existing Woolwell Roundabout.

Copies of the Order and of the relevant plan may be inspected free of charge from 21 May 2026 between the hours of 06:30 and 15:00 Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) within the George Junction Park and Ride terminal building located at Tavistock Road, Plymouth PL6 7HB, and may be viewed online at https://www.plymouth.gov.uk/compulsory-purchase-orders.

ANY PERSON may not later than 14 July 2026 object to the confirmation of the Order by notice to the Secretary of State for Transport, National Transport Casework Team, PO Box 1393, Newcastle upon Tyne NE99 5FQ or by email to nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk stating the title of the Order and grounds of objection.

In submitting an objection it should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be passed to the Council to enable your objection to be considered. If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection and the Secretary of State will copy your representations, with your name and address removed to the Council, and if there is to be a Public Local Inquiry they will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result.
