PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION ORDER 2026
FOOTPATH 45 GREENSTEAD GREEN AND HALSTEAD RURAL
& FOOTPATH 4 COLNE ENGAINE
The above order, made on 29 April 2026 under section 119 of the Highways Act 1980 will divert A part length of Footpath 45 Greenstead Green and Halstead Rural of unknown width shown by a bold continuous line on the order map commencing from point A at grid reference 58296,22998 located at a point on the dismantled railway line running in a generally southerly direction for a distance of 8 metres to point B at grid reference 58297,22997 south of the dismantled railway line then running in an east south easterly direction south of and parallel to the aforementioned dismantled railway line crossing through a field boundary and parish boundary to continue as Footpath 4 Colne Engaine for a final distance of 606 metres to point C at grid reference 58355,22983 where it meets Langley Mill Road and terminates, to an alternative route 2 metres in width commencing from the aforementioned point A running in an east south easterly and then generally southerly direction along the route of the dismantled railway line for a total distance of 609 metres to meet the aforementioned point C where it terminates at Langley Mill Road.

Documents can be made available for inspection 8.30am-4.30pm Mon-Fri at Essex County Council, County Hall, E block main reception, Market Road, Chelmsford if so required following the current social distancing restrictions. Copies of the order and order map are available on Essex Highways website at: www.essexhighways.org/public-path-notices and have also been sent to Braintree District Council and Greenstead Green and Halstead Rural and Colne Engaine Parish Councils.
Any representations about or objections to the order may be sent in writing to Public Path Orders, Definitive Map Service, Essex County Council, Seax House, 2nd Floor, Victoria Road South, Chelmsford CM1 1QH not later than 18 June 2026. Please state the grounds on which they are made.
If no representations or objections are duly made, or if any so made are withdrawn, Essex County Council may confirm the Order as an unopposed order. If the Order is sent to the Secretary of State for the Environment for confirmation any representations or objections which have not been withdrawn will be sent together with the Order. Any such representation or objections will be taken into account by the Council with the result that they may be made available to the public under the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985.
(America Road, Earls Colne)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of America Road, Earls Colne in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Coggeshall Road for a distance of approximately 150m in a south easterly direction.
The closure is scheduled to commence on 15th June 2026 for 12 days, or where stated on a valid permit (EP40053939330 – GTM). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new access construction works are undertaken by GTM.
An alternative route is available via B1024, A1124, Tey Road and vice versa (with access only into America Road).
The Order will come into effect on 28th May 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Bournebridge Hill, Greenstead Green)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) & (Braintree Road, Greenstead Green)
(Temporary Introduction of a 30 MPH Speed Restriction) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
- To temporarily close that length of Bournebridge Hill, Greenstead Green in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Plaistow Green Road to its junction with Russells Road a distance of approximately 1180m.
- To temporarily introduce a 30mph speed restriction in that length of Braintree Road, Greenstead Green from its junction with Oak Road for a distance of approximately 365m in a south westerly direction (restriction in both directions).
To speed restriction is scheduled to commence on 15th June 2026 for 127 days and the closure is scheduled to commence on 7th September 2026 for 3 nights (20:00-05:00) and again on 13th October 2026 for 10 nights (20:00-05:00), or where stated on a valid permits (EP40055388243, EP40021627763 & EP40087861089 – Hopkins Homes). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure/speed restriction is required for the safety of the public and workforce while surfacing works are undertaken by Hopkins Homes.
An alternative route is available via A131, A1124, A1017, A131 and vice versa.
The Order will come into effect on 28th May 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
(Gestingthorpe Road, Great Maplestead)
(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Gestingthorpe Road, Great Maplestead in the District of Braintree, from a point approximately 105m north east of its junction with Monks Lodge Road for a distance of approximately 20m in a north easterly then north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 15th June 2026 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD01310790727 – Anglian Water Business (National) Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while new connection works are undertaken by Anglian Water Business (National) Limited.
An alternative route is available via Monks Lodge Road, Great Maplestead Road, Sudbury Road, Hedingham Road and vice versa (with access only into Gestingthorpe Road and Great Maplestead Road).
The Order will come into effect on 28th May 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
- To temporarily close that length of Mill Chase, Halstead Urban in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Head Street for a distance of approximately 20m in a north westerly direction.
- To temporarily close that length of Morley Road, Halstead Urban in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Head Street for a distance of approximately 20m in a south easterly direction.
The closures are scheduled to commence on 21st June 2026 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (BC0080GEAA4204073RCCV2 – Openreach Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while ducting works are undertaken by Openreach Limited.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
- To temporarily close that length of Brook Street, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Station Road for a distance of approximately 195m in a north westerly then south westerly direction.
- To temporarily close that length of Station Road, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 60m in a south westerly direction.
- To temporarily close that length of Church Street, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 30m in a north easterly direction.
- To temporarily close that length of Crossways, Colne Engaine in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Brook Street for a distance of approximately 30m in a north easterly direction.
The closures are scheduled to commence on 1st June 2026 for 5 days, or where stated on a valid permit (BC008WGQCF64GSB, BC008WGQCF64G02SB, BC008WGQCF64G03SB & BC008WGQCF64G01SB – Openreach Limited). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2026
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order: To temporarily close that length of Queen Street, Castle Hedingham in the District of Braintree, from its junction with Church Lane for a distance of approximately 20m in a north easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 2nd June 2026 for 1 day, or where stated on a valid permit (EC30087743329 - UK Power Networks). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while overhead cabling works are undertaken by UK Power Networks.
An alternative route is available via Bayley Street, Pye Corner, Nunnery Street, A1017 and vice versa (with access only into Station Road, Queen Street, St James Street).
The Order came into effect on 14th May 2026 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
