THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (BOWES)
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION AND RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC)
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways has made an order on the A66 Trunk Road, in County Durham County Durham, because of barrier repair and replacement works to be carried out on safety.
The works are expected to start at 8pm on Wednesday 25 May 2026 for 2 weeks, or until completed, and will take place between 8pm and 6am.
The effect of the Notice will be, between 8pm and 6am, at times during the works, to:
(i) Ban vehicles from entering or leaving the A66 eastbound and westbound carriageways at its junction with Snow Gates;
(ii) Impose a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 822 metres east of Clint Bridge to 637 metres west of Clint Bridge, a distance of 1450 metres;
(iii) Impose a temporary 40mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 2080 metres west of Clint Bridge to 822 metres west of Clint Bridge, a distance of 2902 metres;
(iv) Impose a temporary 10mph speed restriction on the A66 westbound carriageway from 653 metres east of Clint Bridge to 637 metres west of Clint Bridge, a distance of 1290 metres;
(v) Impose a temporary 10mph speed restriction on the A66 eastbound carriageway from 409 metres west of Clint Bridge to 822 metres east of Clint Bridge, a distance of 1231 metres;
(vi) Close the A66 westbound carriageway from 560 metres east of Clint Bridge to 350 metres west of Clint Bridge, a distance of 918 metres;
(vii) Close the A66 westbound entry slip road at Bowes.
Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibition (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 24 May 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
