What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14

THE A66 TRUNK ROAD (LONG NEWTON INTERCHANGE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A66 Trunk Road, in County Durham, to enable horticultural works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Tuesday 26 May 2026 for 2 nights, or until completed, and will take place between 10pm and 6am.

The effect of the Order will be to close, the:

(i) A66 westbound exit slip road from 5300 metres east of Little Burdon roundabout to the roundabout connecting the A66 Darlington Road and Mill Lane, a distance of 415 metres;

(ii) A66 westbound entry slip road from Long Newton Interchange roundabout at Darlington Road and Mill Lane to the A66 westbound entry slip road, a distance of 496 metres; and

(iii) A66 eastbound exit slip road from 4800 metres east of Little Burdon roundabout to the roundabout connecting the A66 Darlington Road and Mill Lane, a distance of 650 metres; and

(iv) A66 entry slip road from the roundabout at Long Newton Interchange to the eastbound entry slip road, a distance of 580 metres during which times a suitably signed alternative route will be available.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 25 May 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.

THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (BLACKWELL SPUR) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in County Durham, to enable technology works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Wednesday 27 May 2026 for 1 night, or until completed, and will take place between 8pm and 6am.

The effect of the Order will be to close, at times during the works, the A1(M) westbound carriageway from Blackwell Spur Interchange to Junction 57 Interchange, for a distance of 3400 metres. During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibition (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance or traffic officer purposes). The Order comes into force on 26 May 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.

THE A1(M) MOTORWAY

(JUNCTION 51 TO JUNCTION 50) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A1(M) motorway, in the County Of North Yorkshire, to enable electrical works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Wednesday 17 June 2026 for 1 night or until completed and will take place between 8pm and 6am.

The effect of the Order will be: at times during the works, to close the A1(M):

(i) southbound carriageway from the exit slip road at Junction 51 (Leeming Bar) to the entry slip road at Junction 50 (Baldersby Interchange), a distance of 17260 metres;

(ii) southbound entry slip road at Junction 51; and

(iii) southbound exit slip road at Junction 50.

During the closures suitably signed alternative routes will be available at all times.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter maintenance). The Order comes into force on 16 June 2026 and has a maximum duration of eighteen months.
