THE A1(M) MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 64)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC)

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited has made an Order on the A1(M) Motorway, in the Borough of Gateshead and the City of Sunderland, to enable horticulture works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to start on Thursday 28 May 2026 for 2 nights, or until completed, and will take place between 8pm and 6am.

The effect of the Order will be to close the A1(M) northbound and southbound exit and entry slip roads at Junction 64 (Washington); during which times suitable signed alternative routes will be available.

Traffic signs will indicate the extent of the prohibitions (which will not apply to emergency service vehicles or vehicles being used in connection with the said works or for winter service maintenance or traffic officer purposes).

The order comes into force on 27 May 2026 and has a maximum duration of 18 months.
