What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, SOUTH LAKELAND LOCALITY)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION) OF ALL TRAFFIC (NO.2) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached Schedule.

Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

The Order will come into operation on 10th June 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required for 1 month in total and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

SCHEDULE

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

  1. A5087 Priory Road, Ulverston (Ref:TTROW/17344)

    From a point adjacent to a property known as Number 74 Priory Road, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 710m.

    Alternative Route: via the U6159, U6157, C6004, U6155, C6009, A590, C5103 and the unrestricted section of the A5087.

  2. Sandside Road, Ulverston (Ref:TTROW/17377)

    From its junction with Cross Lane, extending in an overall north westerly direction for a distance of approx. 710m.

    Alternative Route: via Morecambe Road, A5087, A590, North Lonsdale Road, Cross Street and the unrestricted section of Sandside Road.

  3. B5343 Chapel Stile (Ref:TTROW/17359)

    From a point adjacent to a property known as Wainwright’s Inn, extending in a north westerly direction for approx. 995m.

    There is no suitable diversion route available for vehicles.

  4. C5011 Grizebeck (Ref:TTROW/17363)

    From its junction with A5092 Grizebeck Brow, extending in a north easterly direction for approx. 1.1km.

    Alternative Route: via the A5092 Grizebeck Brow, C5010 and the unrestricted section of the C5011.

  5. A593 Rothay Bridge, Ambleside - Approx. duration 3 nights during the hours of 2100 and 0600 (Ref:TTROW/18557)

    (i) For a distance of approx. 25m either side of Rothay Bridge; and

    (ii) From its junction with the A5075 Borrans Road, in a north easterly direction for approx. 300m.

Alternative Route: via the A5075 Borrans Road, A591 Lake Road, A592, A590, A5092, A5084 and the unrestricted of the A593.
