What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (U5523 RED BANK, AND B5287 CHURCH STILE, GRASMERE) (GRASMERE GALLOP) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to facilitate the holding of the Grasmere Gallop Event (“the Event”) in and around Grasmere, Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following lengths of road;

1. U5523 Red Bank, Grasmere, from a point approx. 140m west of its junction with the B5284 Church Stile, extending in an overall southerly direction for approx. 2.8km.

Alternative Routes:

South Bound Vehicles: via the unrestricted section of the U5523 Red Bank, B5287 Langdale Road, Broadgate, Swan Lane, A591, Rydal Road, A593 Ambleside and B5343. North Bound Vehicles: B5343, A593, A591 Rydal Road, B5287, Langdale Road.

2. B287 Church Stile, Grasmere, from a point approx. 10m north of its junction with Red Bank, extending in a southerly direction for approx.20m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted sections of the B5287 Church Stile/Bridge, Stock Lane, A591, Swan Lane and Broadgate.

N.B. The restriction detailed in 2 above on Church Stile will only be required for short periods, as and when it is needed to facilitate a safe crossing point for the participants of the Event. This will be marshalled by the Event organiser.

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The Order will come into operation on 30 May 2026 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of three days from that date. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 1 day on Saturday 30 May 2026 between 1100 hours and 1430 hours, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
