Durham - Temporary Footpath and Bridleway Closure due to Gas Main Replacement Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham

(Fellrose Court and Public Rights of Way, Bridleway Number 38, Pelton Fell Parish) (Temporary Footpath and Bridleway Closure) Order 2026

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of footpath and bridleway as described.

Footpath Closure (Closed to pedestrian traffic):

A 44 metre length to the front of No. 27-31; a 26 metre length to the front of No. 26; a 12 metre length to the front of No. 20-21; a 71 metre length to the front of No. 1-9 and a 25 metre length between No. 3 and 4 Fellrose Court.

Bridleway Closure (Closed to all traffic):

A 365 metre length of Bridleway No. 38 from Front Street, Pelton extending southwards to Pelton Fell Road to enable gas main replacement works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of the closure, any diversion to pedestrian traffic will be signposted on site. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The proposed works are to commence from 8am on Monday 8/6/2026 and the duration of the works anticipated to be 6 weeks. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
