What is happening?

(CRATHIE FOOTPATH, BIRTLEY - FOOTPATH CLOSURE)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
Notice is hereby given that on the 20 May 2026 the Borough Council of Gateshead made an Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 the effect of which will be to temporarily prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along Crathie footpath from the rear of 7 Crathie in a northeasterly direction for a distance of 10 metres.
The Order is required to facilitate boundary box and meter installation works.
The Order will come into force on the 25 May 2026. The maximum duration of the Order will be 6 months, however the works are expected to be completed on the 29 May 2026.
During the works all pedestrians (except pedestrians associated with the works and emergency service operatives on duty) will be prohibited from proceeding along the above footpath until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs.
During the prohibition there will be a signed diversion in place.
