Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of East Sussex and the Unitary Authority of the City of Brighton and Hove, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
- authorise -
a) the overnight closure of the westbound carriageway of the A27 between Ashcombe Roundabout and the tip of the nosing of the entry slip road at Hollingbury Interchange;

d) the 24-hour closures of all lay-bys and bus stops adjacent to the carriageways detailed in 1a) above;
e) the 24-hour closures of the footway adjacent to the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points approximately 950 metres and 1530 metres west of the South Downs Way overbridge;
f) the 24-hour closure of the footway crossing the Falmer Hill footbridge and all footpaths approaching the bridge;
- impose -
a) a 24-hour 50 mph speed restriction on the A27 westbound between a point approximately 490 metres west of the centreline of the South Downs Way overbridge and a point approximately 150 metres west of the centreline of The Drove overbridge; and

These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway reprofiling to increase headroom on the Falmer Hill Footbridge, and all associated works.
It is expected that work would last for approximately 6 weeks starting on or after Saturday 13th June 2026. The Order would come into force on 11th June 2026 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when all works are complete.
Overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 hours.
Please check National Highways website for details.
Though traffic affected by the closure in 1.a) above would be strategically diverted using the A26, A259, and A23, rejoining at Patcham Interchange. Other closures would use the A27, A259, A23, and/or A23, A259, B2123 Carden Avenue, Coldean Lane, and Stony Mere Way.
The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force.
The temporary closures, speed limits, narrow lanes, and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
