TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026

Sunderland City Council gives notice that on 20th May 2026 it made an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which is to temporarily prohibit all vehicular, horse and cycle traffic from the sections of highways in schedule 1 below and to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from the section of footway in schedule 2 below. The Order is required to facilitate highway improvement works. The order comes into force on 25th May 2026. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be six months. However, the works are expected to be completed within three weeks. The closures will be in effect until the works are completed or at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. An alternative route will be provided.
Schedule 1: Prohibition of all vehicles: Greenwood Road from its junctions with Chester Road and Gardiner Road. Schedule 2: Prohibition of pedestrians - Chester Road (southernmost footpath outside of no.219) – from outside no.219, to its eastern extent; and Chester Road (northernmost footpath outside of no.197) – from outside no.197, to its western extent
