What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (SHIELDS ROAD 20MPH SPEED LIMIT ZONE AND PROHIBITION OF WAITING) TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2026
NOTICE is given that on 20th May 2026 Sunderland City Council made an Order under Sections 1, 2, 4, 84 and 122 and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 by virtue of the Traffic Management Act 2004 as amended and all other enabling powers and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police in accordance with Part III of Schedule 9 of the Act. The effects of the Order, which comes into force on 5th June 2026, are to: (i) Prohibit waiting at any time along the roads in Schedule 1; and (ii) Introduce a 20mph speed limit zone along the lengths of roads in Schedule 2. Documents giving more detailed particulars of the Order may be inspected during normal opening hours at City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA, until six weeks have elapsed from the date on which the Order is made. Any person wishing to question the validity of the Order or of any of its provisions on the grounds that it or they are not within the powers conferred by the Act or on the grounds that any requirement of that Act or of any instrument made under the Act has not been complied with may within six weeks from the date on which the Order is made apply for the purpose to the High Court. Schedule 1 No Waiting At Any Time: Shields Road (spine road) both sides from a point 14.1 metres west of the eastern highway boundary located 18.1 metres south of the extended party property boundary of 6 and 8 Shields Road, for a distance of 10.0 metres in an easterly direction; Schedule 2 20 MPH Speed Limit Zone: (i) Dovedale Road from a point 23.8 metres west of its intersection with the extended party property boundary of 141 & 143 Dovedale Road, to its western extent; and (ii) Shields Road (spine road) for its entire length.
