Cumberland - Multiple Traffic Notices, Consolidation and Provision of Traffic Regulations
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (VARIOUS ROADS, CLEATOR MOOR, EGREMONT, MILLOM AND SURROUNDING AREA)
(CONSOLIDATION AND PROVISION OF TRAFFIC REGULATIONS) ORDER 20><
- Cumberland Council hereby give notice that it proposes to make the above Order under Sections 1(1), 2(1) to (4), 19, 32, 35, 35A, 38, 45, 46, 47, 49, 51, 53 and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
- The effect of the Order will be to consolidate, revoke and re-enact the provisions of The County of Cumbria (Various Roads, Borough of Copeland) (Consolidation and Provision of Traffic Regulations) Order 2023; together with the following changes:-
(a) Introduce “no waiting at any time” (double yellow line) restrictions on parts the following road: -
(i) Wath Brow, Market Street, Victoria Street, High Street, Montreal Street, Cleator Moor;
(ii) High Road and The Crescent, Thornhill;
(iv) East Road, Egremont;
(v) Main Street and Seacote Gardens, St Bees;
(vi) Scalegill Road and School Street, Moor Row;
(vii) Springfield Gardens and Chapel Street, Bigrigg;
(viii) A595 and B5344, Holmrook;
(viii) Wellington Street, U4141, Victoria Street and Finch Street, Millom;
(ix) Main Street, Floyd Street and Silverdale Street, Haverigg;
(x) U4074 Kirksanton; and
(xi) Moresby Parks Road and Parkfields Road, Moresby.
(b) Introduce “no loading / unloading at any time” restrictions on part of Birks Road, High Street and Jacktrees Road, Cleator Moor;
(c) Reduce the extent of the “disc parking, waiting limited to 1 hour, return prohibited within 1 hour, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive, residents exempt” restriction and replace with “no waiting, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive” on Sbriget’s Lane, Egremont;
(d) Replace the “disabled parking” on Braithwaite Court, Egremont with “no waiting at any time” restrictions. Replace a section of “disc parking, waiting limited to 1 hour, return prohibited within 1 hour, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive” restriction on Market Street, Egremont with “disabled parking”;
(e) Replace the “disc parking, waiting limited to 1 hour, return prohibited within 1 hour, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive” restriction with “disc parking, waiting limited to 2 hours, return prohibited within 2 hours, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive” restriction on Market Square and St George’s Road, Millom;
(f) Replace the “disc parking, waiting limited to 1 hour, return prohibited within 1 hour, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive, residents exempt” restriction with “disc parking, waiting limited to 2 hours, return prohibited within 2 hours, 8am – 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive, residents exempt”, on Albert Street, Wellington Street, Nelson Street, Lapstone Road, Crown Street and Katherine Street, Millom; and
(g) Introduce “waiting limited to 4 hours, return prohibited within 4 hours, 8am – 6pm Monday to Sunday inclusive” restrictions in laybys at various locations on the following lengths of road: A595 (Calder Bridge, Gosforth, Holmrook, Muncaster, Waberthwaite, Bootle, Whitbeck); B5344 (Holmrook); and A5093 (Whicham).
PLEASE REFER TO THE DOCUMENTS ON DEPOSIT AND ON THE COUNCIL’S WEBSITE FOR FULL DETAILS.
- Full details of the proposed Order, together with a copy of the Order to be consolidated, revoked and re-enacted, and a statement of the Council’s reasons for proposing to make the Order, will be available on deposit for public inspection at:-
(i) Cleator Moor Town Hall, Market Square, Cleator Moor CA25 5AP;
(ii) Millom Town Council, 6 Newton Street, Millom, LA18 4DR;
(iii) At the offices of the undersigned; and
(iv) on the Council’s website using the following link: -

and may otherwise be obtained by emailing TROresponses@cumberland.gov.uk.
