What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14(1)(a)

THE A38 TRUNK ROAD (MARLEY HEAD)
(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2026

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (a) has made an Order on the A38 trunk road in the County of Devon to allow sign replacement and associated maintenance works to be carried out in safety.

The works are expected to take place commencing on or after 18 May 2026 and be completed by 26 June 2026.

The effect of the Order will be:
(a) to impose a (24 hour) mandatory 50 mph speed limit on the A38 westbound from 270 metres west of Dry Bridge Cross Junction overbridge to 240 metres west of the A385 overbridge at Marley Head Junction;

(b) authorise the overnight (20.00 to 06.00) closure of:
(i) the A38 westbound from Dartbridge Junction to Marley Head Junction;

(ii) the A38 eastbound and westbound exit slip roads at Marley Head Junction;

(iii) the westbound entry slip road at Dartbridge Junction;

(iv) the westbound entry slip road at Dean Prior Junction;

(v) the westbound entry slip road at Drybridge Cross Junction;

(vi) the westbound entry slip road at Lower Dean Junction;

(vii) the layby adjacent to the westbound entry slip road at Marley Head Junction;

(viii) the layby adjacent to the A38 eastbound located 95 metres east of Portford Lane underpass

During the closures, traffic will be diverted via junctions of the A38 and local roads.

The closures (which will not apply to emergency services, traffic officer or works vehicles) speed limits, and diversion routes will be clearly indicated by traffic signs throughout the works.

The Order will come into force on 16 May 2026 and have a maximum duration of 18 months.
